[edit] Music video
Britney made her directorial debut with the music video for Do Somethin', though she had assistance from previous Spears collaborator Billie Woodruff ("Born to Make You Happy," "Overprotected"). Britney requested that she be credited as "Mona Lisa" for the video, her apparent alter-ego.
After an opening scene in which the camera takes the audience through a metal tunnel leading up to a door reading "Mona Lisa," we find Spears and her crew performing a dance routine. Next, the girls make their way into Britney's pink hummer and drive among the clouds in the sky. As it turns out, their location is a club named Hole in the Wall. Once at the club, Spears and friends attempt to liven things up by dancing suggestively, seeing as everyone there besides them are stiffs. Following their dancing, they get up on stage and toy with the guys at the bar. The ending of the video has Spears singing at a microphone with her friends as her band.
[edit] 2007 Lawsuit
In November 2007, Louis Vuitton won a suit of 80,000 EUR in damages after their brand appeared in the 2005 video for 'Do Somethin'. The French luxury company won a court injunction in Paris to the keep video (in which Britney drives a pink Hummer with a counterfeit Vuitton “cherry blossom” monogrammed dashboard) from airing on European TV stations.
The civil court ruling also ordered the video’s producer to pay $117,600 for damages to Vuitton’s image, and $1,470 per day until the video is removed from the Internet.
Named in the suit are Spears’ record label, Jive, its parent company Zomba Label Group and Sony BMG and MTV.com, where the video has appeared.
Britney Spears is not directly linked to the court proceedings. [1]
[edit] Chart performance
Though "Do Somethin'" was never officially released in the U.S., it managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 at #100 through aid of digital downloads. However, downloads were very weak and the single peaked at only #49 on the Hot Digital Songs chart.
"Do Somethin'" achieved more success on a worldwide scale, reaching the top ten in several nations. The single peaked at #6 in the UK and has sold 90,000 copies.[2]
In Latin America, the single became Spears' fourth entry in the Latin America Top 40. The single debuted at #35 in April, 2005[3], and peak at #12 six weeks later[4].
