Dniestr Melodies Russian: Днестровские мелодии/Dnestrovskie melodii) is a 1973 Soviet Moldavian musical film starring Sofia Rotaru in the main role, as well as Ion Suruceanu, Nadezhda Chepraga and Maria Cudreanu. The movie symbolizes the modern success of the Soviet construction of socialism, progress and international friendship among Russian, Ukrainian and Moldavian cultures. The movie features songs in Moldavian and Russian of Sofia Rotaru and other singers, as well as behind the scene background voice monologues in Russian between the songs enchanting the history and georgaphy of the Dniestr region.

Nadejda Cepraga, Maria Cudreanu, as well as Ion Suruceanu appear also with soloist performances.
At the time of the movie, Moldavian Sofia Rotaru, young graduate of the Kishinev Musical Arts Conservatory was already Distinguished Artist of the Ukrainian SSR. The scenic background of the movie are Codru mountains, Dniestr river, but also modern newly built white buildings in Kishinev, specially constructed for the 50th Anniversary of the Moldavian SSR: Hotel "Intourist", Concert Palace "Octombrie".

Most of the featured buildings, serving as decorations and the main filming scene (hotel "Intourist"), palace "October") were in fact built in the very same 1974, specially for the 50th Anniversary of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic.

Sofia Rotaru sings "My White City" in the opening of the movie, both in Moldavian and Russian languages, song, which was the winner of the Golden Orpheus international song festival in Bulgaria.
