DM in NYC here. Armchair historian and movie buff born in New Rochelle, New York, raised in Houston, Texas, and who ended up back in New York after all. Go figure.

I kept running across Wikipedia while fact checking for work and soon found myself browsing it for ridiculous amounts of time. Figured I'd contribute in whatever small way I could. Did a few minor edits as I familiarized myself with the mark up and structure. Here's hoping I won't bring the whole system down when I start adding information as I hope to do soon.

I was born in New York and live there now but in between I spent some formative years in Baton Rouge and then managed to grow up in Houston. Don't owrry - this isn't a history of my life from Montessori school to now. You had your own angst ridden childhoods, you don't need mine.
I've worked in publishing, web development and ended up (via a stint in telecommunications - good gads what a cesspool that industry is!) tangentially back in publishing working as an indexer. Indexer, i hear you ask? Yes, the person who makes that list in the back of the books. No, a computer doesn't do that. I do. And yes, I have to read the books to do it. Yes, bow down before me and my brilliance. I have found a way to get paid to read.
Oh and because there are only so many indexes and a girl cannot live by indexing alone, I am also a freelance writer.

- mystery novels - Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe series, Dorothy Sayers Peter Wimsey mysteries, and I am trying to collect once again the mystery series' of my youth - Trixie Belden and Nancy Drew
- historical fiction - Dorothy Dunnett's Lymond chronicles are a favorite, as are Sharon Kay Penman's titles
- non-ficiton of all kinds - especially cultural histories and biographies
- history - it's all interesting to me but I am especially interested lately in the Jewish history of Rome as well.
