Dmitriy Byakov (Russian: Дмитрий Бяков) is a Kazakh football midfielder. He was born on April 9, 1978. He plays for the club FC Astana since the year 2008. Byakov also plays for the Kazakhstan national football team. His first name is also sometimes translated as Dmitry or Dmitri.

Dmitriy Byakov's club career started in the year 1998 in the club CSKA Kairat Almaty and he has played for different clubs ever since that.

[edit] Surviving Tragedy

On April 9, 2003, on his 25th birthday, Dmitriy was stabbed in the heart after a brawl in a night club in Almaty. [1]. He not only survived, but after two years of recovery he also managed to come back to a professional level.

Dmitriy also started playing for the Kazakhstan national football team in the year 2000. After the tragedy his comeback to national squad was legendary. He became Kazakhstan's top scorer in UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying scoring 5 goals, against Azerbaijan, Finland, Belgium, Poland and Portugal, three of which were away goals[2].
