Dmitri Kitajenko

Dmitri Georgievich Kitajenko (born 18 August 1940) is a Russian conductor. He was born in Leningrad and studied at the Glinka Musikschule and the conservatories of Leningrad and Moscow. He won the Herbert von Karajan competition in 1969.
Kitajenko was music director of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra for 14 years. He has also held principal conductorships with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra (1990-1998), the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (1990-1996) and the Bern Symphony Orchestra (1990-2004). He has also served as principal conductor of the Moscow Opera Theater.
