I:
- live with my wife and our four daughters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
- live in a neat Arts and Crafts home that needs a fair amount of interior renovation of a mostly aesthetic (rather than functional) nature. Except for the doors and (30) windows. And attic insulation.
- received a B.A. in English and History from Campbell University (w) in 1995 and an M.A. in English literature from North Carolina State University (w) in 1998.
- taught rhetoric and literature at both CU and NCSU, as well as the University of Wisconsin-Madison (w) and Marquette University (w).
- received the interminable ABD in (medieval & renaissance) English Literature after quite a few years in the alleged doctoral program at MU. My main academic interests concerned political theology (w), the "history of the book," material culture, and English literary history during the confessionalization of Europe from c. 1381-1666.
- possess half an unfinished dissertation sequestered in boxes and files in my attic. Most of this stuff pertains to Robert Crowley (printer) and the London press under Edward VI.
- do IT consulting, website design and development, frequently using Mambo (CMS), Joomla!, and other Open Source software under the auspices of New Local Media.
- have contributed writing to Comment: the journal of the work research foundation, The Matthew’s House Project, The Sixteenth Century Journal: The Journal of Early Modern Studies, Books & Culture, and (of course) Wikipedia.
- was a co-founder and associate and design editor for The New Pantagruel, a quarterly journal driven by Movable Type and featuring the regular blog-column of Ambrose Bierce's irascible encyclopaedophile, Fr. Gassalasca Jape, S.J. tNP was owned and operated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization registered in the state of Missouri under the auspices of the Pantagruel Press, of which I was a principal owner.
- have been or am currently involved in the online and on-the-ground manifestations of several (at least once) well-intentioned community projects, including the Riverwest Currents, the Riverwest Neighborhood Association, the Riverwest Co-op and Cafe, and the Riverwest Investment Cooperative.
- run the Riverwest Neighborhood Network.
