Black Face

Thanks for deleting Black Face so fast! - Milk's Favorite Cookie 23:46, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Justin Cross

Thank-you for correcting my stats on the Justin Cross article. I will be glad to add his career stats at the end of the 200-08 season. Cheers, 1bevingtonco (talk) 01:32, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Rob Matrix

Just a quick question. As you are the deleting admin for this article why is the talk page still there? Just curious. !! Justa Punk !! 23:58, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Must have just missed deleting it as well.-Djsasso (talk) 14:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

User talk:Dr pda/persondata.js

I think this script uses the wrong date format. I think Persondata is supposed to have dates of birth/death as Month DD, YYYY.-Wafulz (talk) 02:36, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Hmm I am not sure. Cause that's one of those depending on country things, ie Canada does it one way and the US does it the other. I tried looking it up. But maybe I will hold off on using this script for awhile. I just tested it on one junior hockey team to see how it worked. -Djsasso (talk) 02:49, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
It is listed as a good tool to use on the Persondata wikiproject page. Who knows, I was bored at work today so thought I would try something new. -Djsasso (talk) 02:53, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Deletion Review Request

Please review the deletion of the article on Transformation (South Africa). Transformation is in fact a policy of the government of South Africa and I believe that people should know what that means and how it is implemented. For this reason, I think the information is necessary and should be in the Wikipedia. I hope that we can debate the truth and accuracy of the article and fix that, rather than deleting it entirely. -Squiose 8:35 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Djsasso there is no question of your "wiki-competency" but for an Italian you still have multitudes to learn about respect. catauro (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 09:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

I am not Itallian, and I do know about respect. But I do thank you for your comment. -Djsasso (talk) 14:58, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

The Xeno Project

Can you userfy the latest revision of The Xeno Project as I only have an older copy of the article but not the most recent one, thanks in advance. --Pizzahut2 (talk) 02:04, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Sure its at User:Pizzahut2/The Xeno Project. -Djsasso (talk) 03:16, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Relisting AfDs

Hi. :) I know this was probably just an oversight, but I note that when you relisted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jeff Green (editor-in-chief), you didn't remove it from the original date. I've done so now, but I wanted to point it out to you just in case it was a requirement of which you were unaware. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Calgary Independent Film Festival

I don't understand why it's no consensus or even why you closed, the debate was not up for too long and there hasn't been any support for keep, so I'm not entirely sure why you closed as "no consensus". The Dominator (talk) 00:06, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Mostly because there was only one comment to delete and it was up for 8 days which is already a few days past the normal closing time. And living in Calgary I know how huge a festival it is. I probably could have just relisted it I suppose for more feedback. -Djsasso (talk) 03:13, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Are you sure you're not mixing it up with Calgary International Film Festival? The article that was up for deletion was about an obscure super8 and 16mm amateur film contest. And what I initially thought is that you should have relisted, in fact, the article about the organization that hosts the contest was deleted a few months ago. The Dominator (talk) 06:17, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Both festivals are rather large, but are for different types of films, one is for independent films and the other while still not mainstream films tends to be films by major studios. The festival in the article is one of the biggest independent festivals in North America of its type, so not so obscure. But being the lack of a clear decision either way, I felt it was best to just close it as no-consensus. -Djsasso (talk) 06:48, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
I honestly doubt that the "100$ festival" is one of the largest in North America. You think I could just nominate it for AfD again? And don't think I don't know, I live in Airdrie. The Dominator (talk) 14:45, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Personally I wouldn't, it should be easy enough to find multiple independant articles about the festival, which is all it needs to meet WP:N and WP:V. Size isn't really even an issue, it just has to have multiple independant sources and be verifiable. And I am sure the papers have given it more than a few articles over the decades its been around. I will look some up today. -Djsasso (talk) 16:15, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
You can try, I'm kind of doubtful though. Of course, if secondary sources are found I have no objection to the article staying, the only reason I listed it was because there weren't any. The Dominator (talk) 23:09, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Well I placed three independant sources that popped up right away, I am sure I could find other articles about the subject as well if I kept looking. At any rate its atleast as notable as any of the other festivals in Category:Festivals in Alberta. -Djsasso (talk) 23:31, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
All right. The Dominator (talk) 14:33, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

hockey rvs

Don't give them more to complain about... I'm going to request mediation if I'm allowed so if you stop reverting it would be better. Maybe? Hazelorb (talk) 18:43, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

They are all already reverted now, and don't bother with mediation. This arguement comes and goes on the hockey project rather frequently. Neither side has gotten to the point of blows so there probably isn't really a point yet, there has been much worse debates in the past. -Djsasso (talk) 18:46, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I've been around since 2005 so I have seen it all. I'm sick of it. Hopefully your reverts don't spur up some kind of edit war. Hazelorb (talk) 18:52, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Diacritics

You've broken me. Diacritize any hockey article, you want. GoodDay (talk) 16:26, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

That's why a bunch of us warned you to stay away from such hot issues. Because it only makes people frustrated and we lose an otherwise good editor. I would like to see you stay, but if its not fun for you then maybe you should leave for awhile. -Djsasso (talk) 16:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not having fun anymore (my loss), that's why I've left the hockey articles. The diacritics oppression is too much & yes I know all about the Wiki guidelines (they were 'forced' on editors like me). The little 'swiggles' & 'dots' are tolerable, but the 'squares' are overkill. GoodDay (talk) 17:02, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Squares are usually your computer not having the right font to display the particular character. -Djsasso (talk) 17:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
They're overkill. The English alphabet has been hacked to bits, to appease Europeans. Now that the diacritics are here at English Wikipedia, they'll never be removed. GoodDay (talk) 17:08, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
But the point is those words aren't English. You can't just remove diacritics and make them English, that is not how you translate words. We aren't hacking the English alphabet up because those words are not English. Just like we use Elitserien for the name of the SEL. That isn't a translation either, but because it's a proper name it is appropriate to use the Swedish name. -Djsasso (talk) 17:18, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry Dj. Call it xenophobia, linguisticphobia etc; I have a hatred for 'diacritics'. I simply don't agree with having them 'forced' on English Wikipedia. Anyways, we (not suprisingly) disagree on this topic. You can't begin to appreciate the venum I have for these foreign symbols. Thus my reason (again) for droping out of the Hockey articles. GoodDay (talk) 17:30, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
If they weren't intended to be used on Wikipedia they wouldn't put all the links at the bottom for you to add them. It really is as simple as that. I don't know why you have so much issue with it, it really doesn't harm you. You still know exactly what is being talked about. Personally it just seems like you want to pick a fight about something, and this is the topic you latched on to. -Djsasso (talk) 17:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Fight over? no, not anymore. I've even withdrew from the discussion at Wikipedia: Naming conventions (use English). To fight over it is futile. GoodDay (talk) 17:42, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
PS- If you want the last word here, you've got it. GoodDay (talk) 17:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm back (for discussion, not editing) & with a calmer attitude. Seeing as 'diacritics' are allowed on North American hockey player biographies; why not remove/hide diacritics from North American hockey team articles? As you've noticed, there's been increasing edit warring on 'some' North American NHL player pages (which has surprised me). I just want to stress again, I'm not a troublemaker. GoodDay (talk) 17:24, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Because there will never been a better solution than there is now, because as we can see with Elrith, there are users outside the project who don't have to follow our guidelines. As always I just want to protect the easy truce and not try and tinker with it which as you just saw causes arguments that need not happen. -Djsasso (talk) 20:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I've contacted Elrith (still waiting for his reply, as he's currently signed out). It may be possible to 'tweak' the compromise further. I do this at the risk of upsetting editors who (like me) oppose diacritics. I understand aswell, that as an Administrator (this time around), you've got to uphold rules as you see them. But many will point out, that there's never been a 'consensus' on Wikipedia for usage or non-usage of diacritics (I'm one of the many). GoodDay (talk) 20:57, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Well that is sort of my point, there is no rule one way or the other, so people outside the project are more than welcome to add or remove them as they see fit. So are project members for that matter. That being said, it is civil if you are part of the project to maintain our guidelines, so I and others, you as well have done this. The only issue however, comes down to if people start edit warring on articles, that IS a violation. Personally I never add diacritics to articles even though I support them being there, I can't say that I have ever actually added them. I do however, revert someone removing them if I see it or the other way around. -Djsasso (talk) 21:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I think 'Alaney2k' may have a solution for the non-North American player pages. He's been adding the English usage of those players names, next to the 'mother country' usage. He may be onto something, take a peek (mind you, Krm500 doesn't like it). GoodDay (talk) 21:27, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I think that makes the lead paragraph messy, but I won't undo what he has done. If you guys feel the need to do that sort of thing I won't stop you. I still don't see why its so hard to just ignore the diacritics. The other problem with this is that Common English Spelling is misleading. -Djsasso (talk) 21:31, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
But, it is common English spelling (which is my core point). GoodDay (talk) 21:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
And I don't believe it is. That is the whole point behind this arguement. It is just people being lazy and not making 3 more key strokes when typing the name, that isn't a different spelling, that's just being lazy. -Djsasso (talk) 21:43, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
But, that's your PoV (as to why editors like me oppose the dios). It's undisputable that (for example) Teemu Selänne is 'more commonly' Teemu Selanne in English. GoodDay (talk) 21:49, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
And that is your PoV. It's a proper name, just because it is spelled wrong in a number of places, does not make it correct. People spell the words "a lot" as alot all the time, but one is correct and one is incorrect, but its extreme common ussage does not make it right. -Djsasso (talk) 21:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
But, I'm not arguing about 'correct' vs 'incorrect'. I'm pushing for 'common usage in the English language. PS: You've gottan admit? Visnovsky's spelling (with the squares) is 'overkill'. GoodDay (talk) 22:00, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Again Visnovsky doesn't use squares. Your computer is working improperly. It uses symbols that look like apostrophe's and then little ones that look like u's or v's. -Djsasso (talk) 22:02, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
My computer works fine; please reconsider, Djsasso. GoodDay (talk) 22:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I am being serious, squares appear when your browser is having trouble with a font being used. I work in IT, so I have fixed this issue a few times on peoples computers. If I could post pictures on here I would show you a screen shot of what most people see when they look at his article. Again I don't care if he add's that stuff, I think he should just discuss it first. -Djsasso (talk) 22:16, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Come to think of it, if you are seeing squares on alot of these people, then maybe that is why you hate them so much there could be a much simpler solution for you. -Djsasso (talk) 22:21, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Would it hide the dios as well? GoodDay (talk) 22:31, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm curious. Would Elrith (and editors, like him) have something on their computers to make them see diacritics, if English Wikipedia didn't have them? GoodDay (talk) 22:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Nope they wouldn't be cause its a whole different character. What the issue is, is your default font doesn't include the diacritics it needs for Visnovskys name. I am actually surprised whatever you are using doesn't cause his aren't really all that strange. I am thinking at some point if you added a theme or something on your computer it probably changed your font from the default windows font to a new one. Unfortunately ther eis no way to hide them other than to remove the font that sees them, but doing that as you have seen will just cause squares. -Djsasso (talk) 22:45, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Again though. Would a computer with diacritics keys (say a Czech computer) be able to create diacritics on these articles for themselves, if the dios weren't on English Wikipedia? In otherwords, if the article 'Teemu Selanne' were in common-English? could a Czech computer create those dios (for itself). GoodDay (talk) 22:50, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't believe so. They would just see the same letters as how they were originally typed. The big thing to understand with diacritics is that é and e for example are not the same letter. They are completely different letters. It's not just simply adding an accent to the e. So no I don't believe it would change automatically. -Djsasso (talk) 22:52, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Tis a tragedy, for both sides. GoodDay (talk) 23:00, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Needs fixing

You need a rewording: The guidelines at Wikipedia: WikiProject Ice Hockey & at Wikipedia: WikiProject Ice Hockey/Team pages format concerning no-dicaritics? aren't in sync. The former says all North Amercian articles, where's the latter contradicts that. Not here to complain, just to point out inconsistancy. GoodDay (talk) 16:02, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind. GoodDay (talk) 22:08, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

A policy change? When did citynames allow special characters? I know that the spelling of cities are different, but allowing diacritics is allowing some cities to have their 'native' spelling, and not others. It's an odd compromise. Alaney2k (talk) 19:29, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

There hasn't been a change, the policy is to leave the cities as the native names, unless there is a pure english translation. ie a completely different spelling. Just removing diacritics is not a translation. -Djsasso (talk) 19:31, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
What are we going to do for some obscure town in Korea? (As an example) I missed this discussion, I thought it was that team pages use no diacritics. What about using the birthplace as listed at the NHL? Alaney2k (talk) 19:33, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
The only reason the compromise happened for player names is that on jersey's there are no diacrtics. However, when you start mangling names of whole cities, that could lead to people being insulted. -Djsasso (talk) 19:35, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
But, how do names like Kiev get through then? It's Kyiv, according to the page? What do we do about that? Alaney2k (talk) 19:37, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Because those are actual translations as I mentioned. Removing a diacritic is not a translation, its a mis-spelling. -Djsasso (talk) 19:38, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
The translation became accepted. Anyway, so is the plan to put diacritics on all the city names that have them natively? Where do we look up a translation? It seems that the biography of players we get from the NHL is a translation. Alaney2k (talk) 19:45, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
The NHL & NHLPA official websites fall under Wikipedia:Verifiablity. -- GoodDay (talk) 19:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Except that they don't for spelling, this has been established numerous times that you can't use websites like that to source spelling, because the webmaster will use whatever seems natural to themselves. -Djsasso (talk) 19:40, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Sure, but a lot of translations are simply misspellings. Or start out that way. Where do we find the definitive spelling for Meszaros' hometown? Alaney2k (talk) 19:45, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
As I told GoodDay are year ot so ago, I would just let sleeping dogs lie. There will never be a full consensus and its best to just respect the uneasy truce. -Djsasso (talk) 19:48, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
It still seems an odd compromise. That of changing player names to use whatever was used when they came over (certainly the case in numerous NHL players), but not accept the spellings the NHL uses for their hometowns. Mistakes will happen, that should not rule out going to the NHL for the source. Alaney2k (talk) 19:54, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
My apologies Dj (at least we haven't deterioted to insulting each other directly). 'Frustratingly' I'm resigned to the 'fact', that you're (meaning, pro-dios) not gonna budge on those 'birthplaces' on the NHL team articles (despite the NHL & NHLPA sources) -please, don't repeat why?-. GoodDay (talk) 22:04, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Yup there will not be any movement I am sure. I don't accept those venues as souces because they also use US English for things that I feel should be Canadian English, considering the game was invented in Canada. So they don't have a great track record for being correct. It's just the company that makes those websites is based in the US, so will be created by people used to that way of typing. -Djsasso (talk) 22:06, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
Take a peek at Wikipedia: Naming conventions (use English). I've proposed seperation of English Wikipedia into 'two' English Wikipedias (one with dios & one without). GoodDay (talk) 22:14, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject: HOCKEY

Hazelorb suggested having a vote somewhere. It reminded of a 'vote' that we took concerning North American & Non-North American hockey articles (players & teams). Problem is, the compromise that was agreed upon, was never fully respected. If you recall, yourself & Krm500 resisted the 'North American half of the compromise'. I'll continue to respect the Non-North American half of the deal (include dios; that goes for all Non NA player bios & teams); if you guys will respect the 'North American half of the compromise' (exclude dios; that goes for all NA players & teams). Help me Djsasso, help us get it right this time. GoodDay (talk) 16:31, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Whoa no one ever agreed to players, and no one every will. That is the biggest part of the issue is player pages. -Djsasso (talk) 16:37, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
If I can accept dios on 'Non-North American player & team pages'; you can accept no-dios on the North American player & team pages. GoodDay (talk) 16:40, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Again I don't know if you understand why I am against removing them, for me its not about an annoyance like it seems to be for you. It's about removing them being an insult to players. It is messing with someone's name. I know if someone went and spelled my name incorrectly just because they didn't like the look of the letter "e" for example that I would be extremely insulted. I don't believe we have the right to mess with their names, which is why I won't ever accept removing them from player pages. And just so everyone is clear as usual, I never add dios to the text of player pages unless its a revert of someone removing them, so its hardly like I have banned them from the pages. So don't make me out to be a censoring monster cause I barely even pay attention to diactritics untill they are brought up by someone else. -Djsasso (talk) 16:42, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
It hurts their feelings?, that is a sentimental concern. If we let such concerns influence Wikipedia? There'd be no article Northern Ireland or British Isles. I do understand your concerns, I just don't think they have a place here. If 'Joe Sakic' is spelt differently on the Finnish Wikipedia? I'm sure he wouldn't be insulted. Let's adjust the compromise as it should be 'North American hockey articles withou dios' & 'Non North American hockey articles with dios'. Allow me to 'police' the NA hockey articles and Elrith to police the Non-NA hockey articles, to help insure it sticks. GoodDay (talk) 16:54, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
There is a difference between being spelled differently and removing diacritics. If there is a translation to english I am all for the translation. I am completely ok with a translation. Removing diacritics are not a translation. Secondly, as has been mentioned, we really have no right to make such declarations that affect multiple wikiprojects and the encyclopedia in general. The only reason I agreed to the last compromise was to stop revert wars, I have no intention of accepting any direct guidelines on the subject. No policing so to speak. And hurting feelings is simplifying the arguement a bit. (my comment about feelings on the project page was editors feelings). All this wasted energy on this arguement could be used to fix more important things on the project. There are millions of things that are in dire need of fixing and yet here we are flogging a dead horse that will never change. -Djsasso (talk) 17:11, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Why is 50/50 such a dirty word, on the hockey articles? Keep dios on Non-NA hockey articles & Remove/hide dios on the NA hockey articles. In fact if you add them up, there's way more Non NA then NA hockey articles. I'm offering 50/50 split, please accept it. GoodDay (talk) 17:24, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't care about the team articles and whatnot, I already gave you those. But there are way more NA player pages than international player pages. Think of all the NHL, AHL, ECHL players etc. I don't see why we need to tinker with the current solution, its been working for a year now. -Djsasso (talk) 17:27, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
You did not give us (pro-English usage editors) all the NA team articles. GoodDay (talk) 17:38, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Also, not all NHL, AHL, ECHL players etc, are NA players. GoodDay (talk) 17:45, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Sorry I thought you meant players who played in North America. -Djsasso (talk) 17:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem; again though, you did not give up all the NA hockey team articles, to having their dios removed/hidden. GoodDay (talk) 18:05, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Just letting you know. Though I strongly disagree with you (plural) pro-dios. I hold no grudge against you, Krm500, Elrith etc. I hope we meet out their among non-hockey articles, in a more cooperative atmosphere. PS: Am I leaving 'yet' again?GoodDay (talk) 22:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

A brief break

From Project Hockey. The movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I thought I'd split a gut, when Linda caught Brad in the bathroom, umm 'daydreaming' about her. His response was classic: Doesn't anybody xxx knock, anymore?. GoodDay (talk) 23:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Guy Carbonneau

Did you not notice that my edit was more then just adding numbers. You should have just deleted the numbers. Kingjeff (talk) 16:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Jacques Martin

I can ganrantee you that the article has inaccurancies. According to his stats table, he hasn't coached 1,000 games. Kingjeff (talk) 17:03, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

It very well might, but in the interest of not making it worse we don't add new seasons till the season is complete. You are more than welcome to fix the previous seasons if you wish. -Djsasso (talk) 17:04, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
It appears actually that it is cause it is missing the 160 games he coached for the St. Louis Blues. -Djsasso (talk) 17:06, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

But there is still a problem with games coached in the table and his wins, losses, OT Losses and ties. Kingjeff (talk) 17:10, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

The wins, losses, overtime losses and ties only total 958 games coached, not over 1,000 like the games goached column says. Kingjeff (talk) 20:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Ok, when I get a chance later I will go through the list of outcomes and figure out where the error was. -Djsasso (talk) 20:01, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I corrected it. The totals weren't added up correctly. Kingjeff (talk) 20:07, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I just edit conflicted with you when I went to fix them. :) -Djsasso (talk) 20:08, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Coaches career table

I've notced that some coaching tables don't include wins, losses and winning percentage for playoffs. Is this standard? I prefer to add the playoff stats along with the regular season stats. Kingjeff (talk) 17:14, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

We only just started adding coaching tables to pages. I believe the Guy Carbonneau article was the standard we used for creating tables. So it does include them. Unfortunately coach articles don't get as much attention as player pages so they are a bit more of a mess at the moment, as you have noticed. -Djsasso (talk) 17:16, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Hockey articles

I've returned (a little) to editing hockey articles. It must be a sign of acceptance of the situation at NHL team articles. Uggh, I feel so defeated and controlled. Thanks for helping me keep my passions in check, you've handled the situation admirably (I'm not being sarcastic). GoodDay (talk) 18:55, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I know you care about what you argue so I don't begrudge your position. I just don't agree with it. For the most part I try and live by the leave it how you found it method of diacritics. The majority of player pages out there that should have them, don't but I don't go adding them because its not worth the wars that get started by doing so. I am not saying you sould ignore the issue, but personally I think your amazing energy could be put to really good use in other areas. You have alot of passion. -Djsasso (talk) 19:00, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I understand what you're saying (I always have). I actually placed a gag-order on myself, concerning the NHL team articles 'birthplaces'. GoodDay (talk) 19:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

WikiProject Ice Hockey March 2008 Newsletter

WikiProject Ice Hockey Newsletter

Dear Djsasso/Archive 3! You are receiving as you are a member of WikiProject Ice Hockey There's been many more new things going on at WP:HOCKEY, and I think this will help you to stay informed. Since the last newsletter sent out in October, there have been many new changes. I'm hoping to make this newsletter a bit more regular; Kaiser matias and Skudrafan1 asked for a new issue a week ago, but sadly, I've been a bit lazy and committed to other things hence this other delay. --Maxim(talk)

There has been numerous new recognized content, so much that it's too time-consuming to sift through the "trophy cases" on WP:HOCKEY. Some interesting achievements:

Task forces

By Maxim

There was a new taskforce created within the WikiProject to deal with topics related to the Boston Bruins. It was originally founded as a separate WikiProject, but was quickly turned into a taskforce within WikiProject Ice Hockey. The list of participants is located here. Located at WP:BRUINS, the taskforce's goals are to make Boston Bruins and Bobby Orr featured articles. Good luck!

New Administrators

By Maxim
Since October, there have been three new admins promoted within the project:

A previously admin-only feature has been made available for all users. The rollback feature allows a user to quickly revert vandalism with one click. If you wish to have rollback, contact an active admin or post a request to WP:RFR.

Featured Topic Drive

By Maxim

The original featured topic drive, initiated by Scorpion0422, has concluded succesfully. National Hockey League awards is now a featured topic, with 24 articles in total. Of them, 20 are featured lists, one is a featured article, and the other three are trophy articles that were too short to become featured lists. Eight users signed up to help out, shown here. The next Featured Topic hasn't been decided upon, and the ideas and organization for it fell apart. If you have any ideas, don't hesitate to share them at WT:HOCKEY.

Notes

  • More editors are needed to help out with the newsletter. Maxim doesn't have an infinite nor perfect supply of ideas, and thus he might omit some interesting news.
  • Portal:Ice hockey is being considered for featured status. Feel free to nominate features at Portal:Ice hockey/Suggestions.
  • Should Chris Pronger have been suspended for more than eight games for stomping on Ryan Kesler? Vote here!

Maps on same sex marriage page

I would hope you knew the policy on what can and cannot be sourced. As discussed and AGREED upon by serveral users and an admin the info within the maps is self made and unsourced. Therefore I will await for you you to rv the page. I would hope that an admin would take the time to review all info before acting.Thright (talk) 17:06, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

As was mentioned to you in the past, being self made does not mean it should be removed from Wikipedia. In fact Self-Made is encouraged to be used on wikipedia. -Djsasso (talk) 17:26, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
you missed the point, if you read the discussion you would know that the map CONTAINS info, INFO that is not source. SEE the DIFFERENCE?Thright (talk) 17:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, then if its missing a source you add the {{refimprove}} template to the article. You are only removing it to make a point. -Djsasso (talk) 17:31, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
No I am removing it because it does not fit with policy and WAS DISCUSSED.
futhermore "Stop removing valid content and then making as speedy for having no valid content. If you want the references improved use the {{refimprove}} tag. If you simply think the article shouldn't exist at all then take it to AFD. You appear to be trying to cause disruptions on many pages. -Djsasso (talk) 17:30, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Where is this info? "Buckman began his Minnetonka football career starting at placekicker as a sophomore in 2003. Buckman was the first-team all-conference and all-state selection at Minnetonka High School during both his junior and senior seasons as a placekicker. Buckman was named the 2004 first-team Nike all-american placekicker as well as a Tom Lemming all-american. Buckman was 18-21 on field goals with a long of 47 yards, and 92% of his kickoffs went for touchbacks out of the endzone. Buckman was ranked as the #1 kicker in the nation by multiple recruiting services. Buckman was an official nominee for the 2006 U.S. Army All-American Bowl as well as a 2005 Street & Smith's Senior to Watch. He was also a two-year all-conference selection in lacrosse as a defensemen.[1]" Can you find it? I can't. Are you just pushing the rollback button? Thright (talk) 17:33, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Again, if you don't like the article you add one of the reference templates (ie {{Unreferenced}}), or you take it to AFD. You don't remove the info and then try and speedy it. That is acting in bad faith. -Djsasso (talk) 17:35, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
we will have to agree to disagree I guess. I am removing the info because it does not follow wiki's policy on sourcing. IN any event I am trying to make wiki the best place of info in the world, I would hope that this is your goal too.Thright (talk) 17:37, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
I think you need to read a few more of the policies as you don't seem to fully understand them. -Djsasso (talk) 17:41, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
ok, hmmmm, you are also saying the admins involved are wrong too, hmmmm interesting!!! in any event we are done here, lets move onThright (talk) 17:55, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
There is no evidence on the talk page of anyone discussing anything except you and one other user, and that user does not appear to have agreed with your position. -Djsasso (talk) 17:56, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
incorrect, anyways it is over, please move along.Thright (talk) 17:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
It is not incorrect, go look at the talk page, nowhere on there as anyone agreeing with you. -Djsasso (talk) 18:00, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
That's what I said, there's no consensus on the talk, and once more an admin's opinion holds no more weight than another registered user's, also Djssaso is an admin if I'm not mistaken. The Dominator (talk) 18:02, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
the warning is from a troll dominik92, I will say one more time stop posting on my talk page, doing so is trolling as this is over. I will write an email and report both u if you contiune harrassing me.Thright (talk) 18:03, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Dominik92 has every right to warn you for being uncivil. He is not trolling, trolling is trying to start arguements, he is just informing you of things you have done in an uncivil manner. Feel free to report who you will, but you are acting in bad faith. -Djsasso (talk) 18:05, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Thright, please note that you can't command anybody to stay of your talk page. You can ask us nicely to leave a matter alone, but if we want to contact you, your talk page is the way to do it. Going to other users and asking to "counter act a troll" [1] is not considered civil and you can in fact get blocked for acting in bad faith The Dominator (talk) 18:10, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

You are of course right, but the comments he's making at user talk:Redrocket and user talk:Thright are really irritating and bad faith. I'm trying to keep my cool, but if he continues to call me a troll and a vandal, I will report him at admin's intervention for personal attacks. The Dominator (talk) 18:38, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
By all means if he keeps it up, go right ahead. I am just saying, try your best not to stoke the fire. Hard to see good editors get messed up in drama. -Djsasso (talk) 18:39, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the user though, because he does many unhelpful things that aren't blatant vandalism and attempts to manipulate the system. The Dominator (talk) 18:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yup, go right ahead. There is definately nothing saying you can't watch things detrimental to wiki. -Djsasso (talk) 18:54, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Looks like he reported my "trolling" Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents, could you add your two cents? thanks. The Dominator (talk) 19:14, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Why

did you remove the "skate perception" article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hellashes (talkcontribs) 15:19, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Because it was put up for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Skate perception and was decided to not be a notable subject. It fails to meet the standards of WP:WEB. -Djsasso (talk) 15:21, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

NHL article rule discussion

Please have a look at WT:HOCKEY#Editing "records" articles when a record is broken if you have time. I would like to discuss the inflexibility of the "don't update until the season is over" rule. − Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 20:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Already replied there. Your edit was pretty much a perfect example of why the rule is in place, you changed the records when it states right on the page that the records are as of the end of the last season. So the records and dates didn't match up. -Djsasso (talk) 20:37, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Happy First Day of Spring!

Linsk/spam for northern ontario town sites

I was not posting irrelevant links, I was changing links to a site that will move addresses in a short while, and adding links for towns that have new info. Why do you think this is spam? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hwy11 (talkcontribs) 17:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

My appologies, I misread your changes and didn't realize you were just changing the links. It was whoever added the links in the first place that was spaming. The links don't meet the WP:EL requirements. -Djsasso (talk) 17:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem. Im the one who added the link a while back - I'm familiar with the WP:EL requirements and don't really see how the links constitute spam, other than the odd one where I added multiple links (which I will avoid in future.) I'm a webmaster with no corporate/search engine interest, and link back to wikipedia regularly. Can you advise on how to avoid getting links knocked off? I really just want to make info on some small towns (which have next to no info on wikipedia) avialable to people. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hwy11 (talkcontribs) 17:27, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
The issue would be with the following requirement that you not use Links to blogs and personal web pages, except those written by a recognized authority. This page is quite obviously a personal web page, with no sourcing, which is why personal pages are not accepted. Your best bet to have it become a viable link would be to source your pages on your site. Though the preferable method would be to add sourced info about those towns right into the articles themselves. -Djsasso (talk) 17:51, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
It's too bad that this is so loosely interpreted, as there are many many weaker links featured all over Wikipedia, and in many cases Wiki articles exist without any substantiation or sourcing whatsoever. But these links are "no good." Whatever, it's disappointing that's all. And now I see that many of the links to these small communities' pages have been removed, many where Wikipedia has little or no information, which means Wikipedia is missing out on a lot of content. Too bad. Thanks anyway. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hwy11 (talkcontribs) 02:00, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Template:Legendsmember

Okay, I'm done with Template:Legendsmember now. Thanks. Flibirigit (talk) 22:36, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Please read WP:DATE for correct formatting instructions

As per the consensus established at WP:DATE, places of birth and death are not to be entangled within the lifespan brackets. Cheers, CP 17:23, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Per much debate on the subject, placing the location of bith with the date like it was on that article is not considered entangling them. -Djsasso (talk) 18:19, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Can you link me to this debate when you have some time? I know that sounds like I'm being a sarcastic ass, but it's a legitimate request. It'll save me a lot of work if the other form is acceptable! No rush of course. Cheers, CP 23:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I actually prefer your version, I had only meant to put the city back in the text of the article but completely spaced out when doing it. -Djsasso (talk) 00:49, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Please help me

Man, some guy just deleted half the OHA without notice... the project talk page here: [2]... and this is what this guy has done... [3]... can we get this stuff reverted... this is a migraine... this is two years of hard work for me... and with no explanation except his POV of CSD A7 has this stuff got deleted. Division champions

At Montreal Canadiens, we've got regular season & playoff Division titles mixed. Is this allowable? GoodDay (talk) 00:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I removed 1992-93, as Boston finisihed first, in the Adams Division. GoodDay (talk) 00:53, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

For division titles, it should be regular season. -Djsasso (talk) 15:59, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for welcoming me back to the Hockey family; It's impossible to get the game out of ones veins. PS- Thanks for not opening up a Wikiquette on me (weeks ago). GoodDay (talk) 19:28, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Don't worry about. I never like to take things to that level, because it just ruins good editors opinions of wikipedia. -Djsasso (talk) 19:29, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

NHL

Why you revoved Areas? Some people have not mind where is Glendale, AZ and Sunrise, FL -US - Jimmy Slade

Because the page is about the NHL, not where the teams are located, for that amount of detail you would go to the team page itself and that will tell you where the team is, if you don't know where Glendale is. Or you can click on the link and go to the Glendale page to see where it is. -Djsasso (talk) 15:59, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Junior Players

I am adding players who are ranked in the top 20 for the respective draft teams on Hockeysfuture.com--Pendingthecynic (talk) 22:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I understand, but all those players will end up being deleted unless they have played professionally or have already been drafted first round in the playoffs. A good guideline for articles that won't end up deleted can be found at Player notability guidelines. -Djsasso (talk) 22:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I wish someone told me that earlier, what about players who will almost certainly play in the AHL next year?--Pendingthecynic (talk) 22:50, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

That is why I wanted to warn you before you got to far. Unfortunately Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so until it is a fact articles are not supposed to be created. You've done nothing wrong and you have made some great contributions. I just don't want to see you disappointed when the articles disappear. Are you from Calgary? I am as well. And so is User:Resolute. He always has a bunch of things on the go for articles involving hockey in Calgary if that is an area you are interested in. He might have some good suggestions on what you could do or help with. I personally tend to have a widerscope and try and deal with anything hockey. -Djsasso (talk) 22:55, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for detailing what i have done wrong. Also I created an article for Brodie Dupont a while back, and according to that page he seems eligible for deletion, no? I do live in Calgary, but I am from Ontario. I am interested in the Hitmen, not so much the Flames as I am a Senators fan, I would like to help out anywhere i can, all things hockey. I will check his page for where people are needed most.--Pendingthecynic (talk) 23:08, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Nope, Brodie is fine in that he has played for the Hartford Wolfpack. Or rather how shall I put it. The first list is not set in stone, it can be bent. The hockey project itself tries to adhere to those guidelines but they aren't offical. The second one WP:Athlete is official, and according to it the minute they play a single minute professionally they are cool to have an article. As for articles I just saw you editing Hitmen articles so I thought that might be a suggestion. But yeah there is so many different areas to work in with hockey its hard to focus yourself. Atleast that is how I find it. -Djsasso (talk) 23:10, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

I agree with all the articles expect for White, I don't think Ryan White should be deleted, he has played in the canada/russia challenge and I believe the top prospects game, he was top 5 in scoring last year and was of the top players in the WHL the last 2 years, we was vote fan favorite for the Hitmen, like you said the rules can be bent...--Pendingthecynic (talk) 23:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Userbox Deletion

Please kindly do not delete my userboxes just because only the image is in violation of the fair use rationale. Next time, I would appreciate it if you would instead remove the image rather than completely destroying my work. Thank You. --Sukh17 TCE 22:30, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I was actually doing you a favour by redirecting it to the other userbox. As it stands your work is a duplicate of an already created userbox and is quite valid for deletion. I thought you would appreciate me not damaging your userpage by deleting the userbox outright and instead redirecting it. -Djsasso (talk) 22:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
First of all, it is not a duplicate. If you can observe, I have adjusted colors on each box, and added the mascot name to the box area. Additionally, the userbox is located within my user-space, and there is no reason why it would have to be deleted considering it differs from other work. If you want to address policy violations in the future, do not delete or redirect the pages entirely, address the violation, or notify the user appropriately, particularly if the violation is within the user's user-space. Thank You. --Sukh17 TCE 22:49, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
User space is not the place to hide violations of policy. You have had the non-free image removed once before and have reverted that change and are now trying to hide the pictures using a switch in your code, which is showing a blatent disreguard for the policy. And I did address the violation, as you had (and still have) a switch in your code that still leads to the non-free image. Once that is removed then all will be fine. -Djsasso (talk) 22:53, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Apologies

My apologies for my tone and the uncalled for difficulty I presented two days ago. I have reworked the code for each of the userboxes to completely remove and delete the past presence of policy violations. I have also deemed another set of userboxes in violation of policy and made appropriate changes there as well. Once again, I apologies for any difficulties and conflict I caused you. Thank You. --Sukh17 TCE 22:21, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I hope you understand I wasn't trying to hassle you. I honestly thought you wouldn't mind it being linked to the other one instead of just having a big blank space. Anways cheers! -Djsasso (talk) 00:07, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

RS

Can I use Criminology: The Core as RS. I asked the question in Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Book_written_for_students, but I got no satisfactory answer. The book is written for students, so I am confused if it can be considered RS or not per WP:RS. The book is written by Larry J. Siegel who is a professor of criminology in University of Massachusetts Lowell and has written several books in the field of criminology. My only confusion is that since this book is basically student oriented, it can be considered RS or not. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 17:25, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I believe it would be a reliable source if it is intended for students. I am not fully up on Criminology so I couldn't say for sure. But if it is being used to teach students then I would say its good to go. -Djsasso (talk) 17:28, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

en dash cleanup (AWB)

I am finding that some of your edits are fixing some of the first hyphens of text constructions such as 13-5-1 (e.g. a win/loss record), (between the 13 and the 5) but not the last (between the 5 and 1). But I am definitely being careful about urls and accessdates and the like. Alaney2k (talk) 20:46, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Hrm maybe I missed a set of numbers. Do you happen to have an example? In my instances if there is a space it won't change for safety. So it could be spaces that are keeping it from changing. -Djsasso (talk) 20:48, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I just did 2000-01 Calgary Flames and it fixed up the win-loss-record and scores. I am using (?<=[0-9] ?)- as a search, and it will match date=2007-01-01 incorrectly, but it is doing multiple matches per line in AWB. I've not been using AWB that long but it is matching every case on a line. I was going to go through the NHL alphabetically in a manner of going to a team, move its seasons, then do the AWB on the seasons category for the team. But there is probably not much use of going over what you are going over. Alaney2k (talk) 21:04, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
I am just doing it in the order that AWB brings them up for me in. But I will go to the bottom of the list so we don't bump into each other. But that is a decent search. I have about a million things entered into the search/replace area as opposed to doing like you are. Maybe I will try that way. -Djsasso (talk) 21:08, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
This will take days of off-and-on editing. But it should make these articles more ready for 'good' status. Alaney2k (talk) 22:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah it will take quite awhile. We used to just change the article as it went up for nom. But this way maybe people will see this example and make sure they use endash right off the back. -Djsasso (talk) 22:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Breaking category links

The AWB script is currently breaking categorizations such as IHL (1945–2001) and NAHL (1973–1977). Flibirigit (talk) 20:42, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I know I am going to be going back and fixing them when I am done this sweep. -Djsasso (talk) 20:42, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
We need a category redirect for Category:National Hockey League scoring leaders (prior to 1947–48). Is this something anyone can do? Flibirigit (talk) 16:48, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Anyone can do it but I will do it. Eventually a bot will come along and move all the articles that we haven't made it too yet. -Djsasso (talk) 17:01, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Is there a Help Page or Instructins on redirecting categories? Flibirigit (talk) 17:26, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
All you have to do is place the {{catredirect}} on the cat page that you are redirecting and remember to remove the old categories that that category was in or you will have both the redirect and the real category show up in the parent category. You don't have to do anything on the page that is being redirected to. -Djsasso (talk) 17:30, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Access date in citations

I've noticed that the AWB is altering some access dates that are supposed to be formatted with hyphens.. such as 2008-04-29. I reverted a couple. Flibirigit (talk) 23:01, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Hrmm were they my edits? I have it set to skip pages with access dates in them. -Djsasso (talk) 23:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
One of them was at Eastern Hockey League. I fixed it. Flibirigit (talk) 23:20, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Template:Blue Jackets

Could you please delete Template:Blue Jackets, since WikiProject Columbus Blue Jackets was merged into a task force, I began putting {{Blue Jackets}} on many articles, which created categories (stub-class Columbus Blue Jackets articles, start-class Columbus Blue Jackets articles, et cetera) which really don't exsist, since the template was redirected to Template:Ice hockey. This would make things a lot more easy, you've already screwed enough stuff up at my task force. 1bevingtonco (talk) 21:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually I already fixed all those categories and that template no longer exists. It is a redirect. Everything points to the correct spot now. Nothing was messed up. All those pages are still tagged as belonging to your task force. Take a look at the talk pages of any of the articles, you just click More on the ice hockey template and it indicates which task force it belongs to. As was mentioned on talk page at the hockey project, this is how most sub-topics of larger topics are handled. All the directories still exist but are named to match all the other directories of the same type. -Djsasso (talk) 00:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Use of NHLPlayoffs Template in 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs

I know that the template last time took up way too much space, but the problems with the template were not with the NHL Playoffs Template, but the massive amount of space that the sub-template, the NHLPlayoffs/Game Template was taking. In fact, if you look at my edit in which I switched from the original template that was first created, to the NHL Playoffs Template, the size of the page actually decreased. I went into both templates and reworked different portions to decrease the size that they would take up, so I believe that we should use it as it summarizes that data in a pretty clean manner and efficient manner, hiding the specific details but keeping the general stuff out there in a neat format. Please let me know what you think. I would appreciate it if you could leave me a note on my page when you respond back. Thanks. --Sukh17 TCE 07:14, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I have made an additional update to the template, merging the NHLPlayoffs/Game Template with the main NHL Playoffs Template, which could save approximately an additional 1,600 to 2,800 bytes depending on the length of each series. Once again, take a look and let me know what you think, and give me some notification upon your reply. Thanks. --Sukh17 TCE 11:17, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

If you could please help expedite the discussion and reach consensus of a finalized series summary template, it would be much appreciated. Thank You. --Sukh17 TCE 00:13, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

I've posted my comment on the talk page, but there hasn't been any inputs from someone else. They are all only temporary tables until a consesus has been reached anyway. And the reason why I've just changed a few of them, was so it should be easier to remove them if they were disapproved. lil2mas (talk) 22:52, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

I have updated the template with my proposal, and according to my calculations, and the current size of the summary tables, I expect that the final tables will add up to no more than 45,000 bytes, where as, if the template last year was continued up until the conclusion of the finals, it would have swelled to approximately 90,000 bytes. This is still significantly larger than the template that was in use previously, however, I would like to remind you that this template provides a lot more information in a neater format while taking up less visual space that the previous format. Please continue to provide comments and suggestions as they are greatly appreciated. --Sukh17 TCE 01:22, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

"Standard template"

Is it standard to include the losing goaltender? Grsz11 19:10, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Opps I totally missed that. Good catch. I must say you have done an amazing job on this page though. Definately one of the best team season pages. I would probably put it up for a GA or FA at the end of the season. -Djsasso (talk) 19:11, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I gotta say, I have a problem with the "standard" as compared to what was there before. I think it's atleast okay to have it uncollapsed. Grsz11 19:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah we could probably uncolapse the playoffs. It's mostly just a length issue really. The Pittsburgh page is huge. -Djsasso (talk) 19:17, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Hmm I just noticed that we don't have a standard listed on the standards page for the wikiproject. I may have just assumed this was the standard as it was used on the original team season page and many other season pages. I have no problem with how you had yours so I will just change it back. -Djsasso (talk) 19:32, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I hope I didn't come across as a dick with an ownership problem. Let me know what you think should be worked on to get this article to GA. Grsz11 21:17, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

You certainly didn't. With the amount of work you put into that page I don't blame you for questioning. I will take a look through and see what I can see. But its definately one of the better season articles out there. -Djsasso (talk) 21:21, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I appreciate it. Hopefully it's all worth it... I wouldn't be surprised if they took tonight off. Grsz11 21:31, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Comprehensive long lists‎ discussion

Hello, I noticed that you took part in the recent FLRC for List of Arsenal F.C. players, which was closed as no consensus. It is clear the the issue of incompleteness in longer FLs is not over, so a discussion page has been started here. Please feel free to comment. -- Scorpion0422 21:15, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Therrien

I understand not putting in up to the minute results, as this isn't a sports stats site. But the regular season is over, so why would you remove my info about it? Mr. Vitale (talk) 16:57, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

They playoffs aren't over yet. Having part of the stats up, encourages others to come along and update each individual game played in the playoffs. I suppose its not that big a deal for coaches as its rare for people to update their stats, but for players it can be an issue. -Djsasso (talk) 17:52, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
I agree that its a bad idea to update player/coaches/team stats after every game. But the regular season is over, and the stats team records aren't going to change. Regardless of what happens to my Pens in the playoffs, they (and Therrien) are 47-27-8. To discourage updating of playoff games records after each game for coaches, I was writing "In progress." Also, I do believe that coaching stats should be updated more quickly, that's why I'm doing this. Usually these things dormant for months, ya know. Mr. Vitale (talk) 00:26, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Dashes

Hi. Maybe I shouldn't have used a dash in the logo title, but you may want to double check before changing them all (one problem here [4] ) which caused the image to be tagged for deletion. All fixed now though. Just so you know. - Rjd0060 (talk) 14:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah normally I check each article to make sure pictures are not altered. Must have missed that one. -Djsasso (talk) 15:55, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
No biggie. Go Wings! ;-) - Rjd0060 (talk) 15:58, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Rash of new task forces

Seems to be a trend to create a task force right now. Since you did so amazing on the other teams. Would you mind making a SJS logo for the sharks? -Djsasso (talk) 16:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

SJS Here you go. --Bamsefar75 (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Template:current sport

I would be interested in your opinion about the continued existence of {{current sport}}. I find that it is on about somewhat less than 420 articles, most of which are teams, leagues, players, and nearly all of whom are involved with months-long processes that might require one edit a day or so. (Compare this to the lack of a similar template indicating that activly updated articles like George W. Bush or New York, New York may change.) Consequence: the {{current sport}} template fails to add any information that cannot be seen from reading the (properly written and cited) text of the article: meaning the use of the template is superfluous and redundant, and basically attracts article clutter.
-- Yellowdesk (talk) 16:38, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Already talked about this on one thread. I think it was on {{current}} that I believe {{current sport}} should still exist. -Djsasso (talk) 16:40, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Here it is Template_talk:Current#Current_sport -Djsasso (talk) 16:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks.
What do you make of the fact that all of wikipedia is out of date, and there is already a general content disclaimer that the information is not necessarilly accurate? (Wikipedia:Content disclaimer). I speculate that at the moment, {{current sport}} is the largest use of a disclaimer template, after the great {{spoiler}} purge took place. -- Yellowdesk (talk) 17:56, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Why?

Why would you delete American Superstar we could of just kept it as a song. -SPBLU 18:28, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Anže Kopitar

Thanks for your contribution to the discussion. You've made a very positive step forward. I hope you'll keep an eye on it so that an agreement in the best interest of all may be reached. --Eleassar my talk 09:28, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Columbus Blue Jackets task force

I've noticed that you have been frequently providing positive and constructive edits towards Columbus Blue Jackets-related material. I was wondering if you'd like to join the Columbus Blue Jackets task force, you practically already are a member because you have helped out Columbus Blue Jackets-related material so much. If you want to, please leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! 1bevingtonco (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 19:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

English Pronunciation

I guess you have to come out here in Ottawa to enjoy the experience :-) . Being a die-hard Habs fan of French-Canadian descent, it always warms my heart when English-Canada employs the different pronunciation out of affection for the team, as I know Jacqui Delaney does of The Bear radio station in Ottawa. — Dorvaq (talk) 16:09, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah I am pretty die-hard myself. But I only get to hear CBC comentators and the home town english Montreal comentators (thru XM Radio). So I guess I am just used to hearing it pronounced Canadi-ENZ as opposed to the english Canadi-ANNS. -Djsasso (talk) 16:11, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Well maybe you should start the fad ;-) Nontheless, the difference is heartwarming and cute, but notability (or lack thereof) is a factor and we can all agree the pronunciation doesn't belong here yet. — Dorvaq (talk) 16:41, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Sidney Crosby & Brian Bellows

I was thinking about bringing up the idea (at Wikipedia: WikiProject Ice Hockey) of removing 'interim' captains from the NHL team articles. But then, I remembered the trouble I encountered at Buffalo Sabres & Los Angeles Kings, when I suggested removing Mogilny & Robitaille respectively. GoodDay (talk) 21:04, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, there probably isn't really much point worrying about it. I think it was just one persons pet peeve on the Crosby. -Djsasso (talk) 21:05, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Can you imagine using Smashville's Boxscore example? The Montreal Canadiens article's team captain section, would've included Robinson, Naslund, Skrudland, McPhee, D.Savard, Corson & Kovalev (not mentioning the other NHL clubs). GoodDay (talk) 21:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
