Djoliba Athletic Club (Djoliba AC) is a Malian football club and one of the two biggest teams in Mali alongside the Stade Malien. The team is based in the capital city of Bamako. It has a headquarters and three training stadia inside a complex named Complex Sportif Hérémakono. The acting president of Djoliba AC is Karounga Keita. Djoliba is literally the name of the Niger River in the native language of Bambara.
[edit] History
The club was created in 1960 and used to be called the "Foyer du Soudan" during the French Colonization.
The team was helped a lot during the 1970s by Captain Tiekoro Bagayoko who, at the time, was of the military dictatorship regime of Moussa Traoré. Many opponents of Djoliba AC, especially those from the rival Stade Malien, claim that the strength of the club was built during that period.
In 1978, Tiekoro Bagayoko was gone, yet Djoliba kept obtaining titles and cups. Today, it is reputed to be the most organized club in Mali.
