(a.k.a. dj buddha)
I am currently in the process of finishing up my Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from the Graduate Theological Union. My dissertation, Taking Refuge in the Dharma: Reading the American Dharma Talk as Ritual, examines the role of ritual within American Buddhist communities, challenging the orientalist assumptions of current scholarship.
Apart from that, I love talking about the intersection of media-pop-culture-politics-religion. And music. I love music. All music. So I made a website where I could talk about these things while simultaneously learning more and more about web design which was once my hobby and has since become something people pay me to do. Go figure.
And apart from all that, I am a teacher and web designer for the Institute of Buddhist Studies. In addition to designing their site, I am the coordinator and instructor for the Ryukoku University Berkeley Center's IBS lecture series wherein I teach Japanese college kids all about American history and culture, for better or worse.
In years past, I have taught numerous college level courses as well as an Introduction to Buddhism course at San Quentin State Penitentiary as part of the Prison University Project. And I do a bit of freelance web design.
