DJ Pusspuss (sometimes incorrectly spelled DJ Puss Puss) is a San Francisco, California-based club, mobile and event DJ, music reviewer, activist and event producer.[2][3][4][5][6][7] In a response to a letter to the editor question Pusspuss replied, in part, "I’ve produced over 300 self-released compilations used by professional dancers, strippers and at clubs and I continue to do over a hundred gigs a year including a residency at Diva’s as one of the few DJs in the world spinning for t-girl strippers."[1] In addition to greater San Francisco region Pusspuss has DJ'd as far away as New Orleans.[8] He has received several awards for his playing in the San Francisco Pride parade, widely considered one of the world's largest pride events and a community-service award from a gay men's health group for his efforts producing community events and fundraisers.

"Radio-Free Pusspuss"[9] and "Music Beyond Boundaries"[4] are the names of his music column reviews covering of a variety of musical genres and his reviews have been widely quoted across many of these genres including feminist, alternative, queer and LGBT-related artists.[10][11][12][13][14][15][16] Pusspuss' writings appear in various LGBT publications including San Francisco Bay Times,[4] San Francisco Spectrum[9], Castro Online, and Gloss magazine.[17]

In an interview with Jennifer Jacobsen of PNN at the 2007 Altered Barbie Show, Pusspuss stated he does many "art events and alternative events" and that the events "are the epitome of San Francisco values".[18] Considered a part of the San Francisco alternative and queer underground cultures, Pusspuss has performed at and produced many events.[5][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26] On June 9 and 10, 2006, Pusspuss was the live DJ for interdisciplinary artist Gigi Otalvaro-Hormillosa's performance art piece Dimension of IS.[27][28] Some notable events include Pink Saturday,[29] San Francisco's largest underground party; Queer-Youth-a-Palooza, California's largest queer youth event;[30][31] and co-produced the Faux Queen Pageant, the world's only event for "genetically challenged drag queens";[32][30], Masturbate-a-thon,[30] as well as developing, producing or co-producing hundreds of others events over the last decade; most being community benefits. In a February 2007 interview he spoke about the need "for more funding for AIDS services", "charity work and events".[33] Pusspuss performs, organizes and produces events through seminars, panel discussions and consultations.[34][35][36][29][37] Pusspuss has also supported LGBT and "gay-friendly" politicians including presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich,[38] San Francisco City Attorney Dennis Herrera,[39] and current San Francisco Supervisors Matt Gonzalez,[40][41] Bevan Dufty and Tom Ammiano.[42]

Pusspuss serves various community organizations as consultant and as a regular DJ supporter and consultant to the San Francisco Late Night Coalition (SFLNC) which has been a leader for performing arts and entertainment activists in San Francisco, and recently around the world.[2][5] Together with the SFLNC, Pusspuss has helped find solutions for artists and communities to incorporate performing arts and entertainment into their lives known as quality of life issues.[2] In San Francisco, the SFLNC created and watchdogs the San Francisco Entertainment Commission, an official city commission, to ensure that venues and artists are treated fairly whereas historically the local authorities (usually police and fire department would randomly close events and/or venues as a form of harassment.[2] In 2007, the Entertainment Commission has been tasked with handling the annual Halloween event which was canceled in 2007 due to violence in 2006 and the rising concerns of the lack of official city support.[43][44][45]
