Caribbean-American DJ Kool Kid grew up on the streets of the Northeast Bronx, making his first mixtape compilations at the age of 14 with a DJ set that he got from his parents for his birthday.[citation needed] Over the last decade he has become one of the key players in New York City's rap scene. Known for his ongoing mixtape series, The Hood Legend, he has also worked for the television channel Nickelodeon, Desert Storm, and Violator Records, as well as making cameo appearances over the years on Funkmaster Flex's Hot 97 radio show and HBO's Def Comedy Jam, as well as making dj appearances world-wide.[citation needed]
