The Division of Kalgoorlie is an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Western Australia. It is named after the town of Kalgoorlie. The Division covers most of rural Western Australia, and extends from the South Australian and Northern Territory borders in the east, to the Indian Ocean in the west and the Southern Ocean in the south to the Timor Sea in the north. Covering an area of 2,295,354 square kilometres (886,241 sq mi) (an area the size of France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Poland and Great Britain combined),[1] it is the largest single-member electoral division in the world[2] (the next largest is Nunavut,[citation needed] Canada, at 2,093,190 square kilometres (808,185 sq mi). It includes towns such as Broome, Port Hedland, Newman, Esperance and Kalgoorlie itself.

The Division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 75 divisions to be contested at the first Federal election. It has been a marginal seat in recent years, and the ALP were hopeful of regaining it at the 2004 election, but ultimately failed, with the current member, Barry Haase, now holding a reasonable majority.
