Divine Madonna was a champion race horse who made it's debut at Cheltenham Park Racecourse, South Australia in February 2005 as a two year old filly, she came from last on the turn for the home straight to finish first, this win started the career of one of racings greatest milers. Divine, as she was affectionately known, was a dark brown mare that raced from 2005 - 2008. She was retired at the young age of 5 due to injury, she was trained by Mark Kavanagh.
Divine Madonna had an amazing career at the top level, she won 4 group one races, the 2006 Emirates Stakes, 2007 Queen of the Turf Stakes, 2007 Toorak Handicap and the 2007 Myer Classic. She had 26 career starts and amazingly only finished out of the top 5 two times in her glorious career.
Divine Madonna was one of the most popular race horses of her generation, this was due to her whirl winding finish which once saw her make up over 8 lengths in the space of 300 meters in her now very famous Emirates Stakes win in which she was pushed to the outside rail yet still managed to fly past ten group one winners in the process including the champion New Zealand Seven time group one winner Seachange (horse).
In what was marked as her last campaign of her career, Divine Madonna was set to take on the world, she was to have one last crack at winning the Doncaster Handicap, Australia's richest 1600m race in which she was one of the favourites for, and then head overseas to England and Singapore and stake her claim as one of the worlds best racehorses. She was then struck down by an injury in her back and was immediately retired to stud.
