Diva, Maharashtra
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Diwa is a railway junction on the Mumbai Suburban Railway between Mumbra and Dombivili. It connects Central Railway with Vasai on western railway and thus provides passenger and freight trains from Southern India travelling towards Gujarat to bypass heavily congested Mumbai suburban traffic.
The nearest cities are Mumbra and Dombivili. Diva junction also connects with rail link to Panvel from where Koknkan railwas originate to Goa and Mangalore. Diva is primarily a railway junction and was almost deserted until 2000. Even now there is little urban population for a railway junction so close to Mumbai.
It is believed that since Mumbai was originally a collection of 7 islands and connected to hinterland by British people through two main lines one passing through Diva to Kalyan junction and the other through Vasai junction to Virar and Dahanu. Vasai was always populated even during 19th century. Many people believe that there is water immediately below the land at diva and so buildings can not be stable.
