Category talk:Division
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't see the purpose of this category. It includes the disperate concepts of division in an abstract ring (division algebra, division ring), division in artithmetic (long division, short division, and intermediate concepts (Polynomial long division). Any ideas? — Arthur Rubin (talk) 22:10, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
- I would ask, why does this category contain Divisor but not Divisor function, Remainder but not Modulo operation, Fraction but not Category:Fractions; why doesn't it contain Multiplicative inverse and all the articles that come with that...
- What's needed is an explicit statement of scope. Something like "This category is for division in elementary arithmetic and division operations in abstract algebra; methods and algorithms for performing division; and other ideas directly related to division. For further explorations see also Category:Number theory, Category:Linear algebra, ..." The last sentence provides an outlet so that this category doesn't include the world.
