Hello, just to let you know, I moved the Köppen's climate classification scheme to the same page but without the "scheme" in name... And thanks for the welcome! -- Matt Borak 13:17, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Yeah thanks, I know, I'm watching it, also seems like you and the other guy are having a fruitful discussion over at Climate!. --Dittaeva 14:12, 5 Mar 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Vaginal syphilis

I'm going to have nightmares for weeks. Thanks! :-) Mike H 22:35, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

My Pleasure! :) There are many more of them where it came from showing the effects of syphilis, and I've just uploaded a better version.

[edit] Picture size

I suggest a little image processing before upload, particulary as the image recently uploaded is not very good quality. A picture size reduction would not hurt the quality and a JPEG would be suitable. Where large, high quality images are uploaded, make that a secondary image reference by a link from an intermediate. (See Shay Locomotive for an example.) Leonard G. 21:00, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Could you make that a working link, please? I cannot see how using a lossy format such as JPEG would improve the quality, did you mean "cropping" by "size reduction"? The image isn't supposed to be used any other way than as thumbnails anyhow, so I thought it suitable to upload the best available quality that I did process from TIFF to PNG. I don't really see the use for any intermediary pages, the big original would be just as inaccessible anyway. But I'll put a thumbnail in the desciption, that hopefully will load first and fast. --Dittaeva 21:21, 13 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Image

If you think the original is more superior, than reupload it. I didn't make the original, nor is it still on my computer, so you'll have to figure that out yourself. マイケル 20:14, Aug 15, 2004 (UTC)

Ok. Could you then explain how you removed the blue nail-polish? The original is easily accessible in the image history, and if I upload a new version it will probably be reverted, but perhaps I'll try.--Dittaeva 20:19, 15 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Nomination for article un-deletion

Hello. I noted your recent support for the Empire of Atlantium article on VfD: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Atlantium The most recent VfD resulted in 19 people (40%) voting to retain vs 29 (60%) voting to delete. Despite the fact that the count was fully 9 votes short of achieving a 2/3 consensus, the article was deleted by a sysop. Because this appears to contravene VfD policy I have listed the article for un-deletion, which you might care to review and support, if you feel it is a valid listing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Votes_for_undeletion

[edit] Gentoo Linux

Why did you unprotect Gentoo Linux? RickK 23:56, Sep 6, 2004 (UTC)

I didn't. But Guanaco wrote something about one vandalization not justifying protection, something I agree completely with. The policy states that one can protect in case of persistent vandalism. Just search the protection log. --Dittaeva 09:11, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
The block log shows that you did. Regardless, the reason why I protected it was because Linux was being vandalized over and over again in the span of just a few minutes, so I protected it, and as soon as it got protected, the vandalism went to Gentoo Linux, so I figured the multiple vandalisms were going to go there, and I didn't want to have to deal with more multiple vandalisms, so I protected it. You had to see the big picture. RickK 18:46, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)
Well, then, no harm done, your block helped, and now its unblocked and editable again. I don't know what block log you are referring to, but the Wikipedia:Protection_log that I looked at does not mention my username at all. I suppose I might as well mention that I'm not on Special:Listadmins page either. I removed the protect tag from the article though, because after Guanaco unprotected it, it just was not true any longer. BTW: Why didn't you block the vandals instead of protecting the pages being vandalized (or did you do that too?)?.--Dittaeva 19:13, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I had blocked every vandal that had vandalized the Linux page, but they kept coming back with new addresses. See the history. RickK 20:08, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)
Yeah, I did look at the Linux history, but didn't compare it with the block history. I am sorry, I should have assumed that you did just that. I suppose you can unblock the pages now? As you can see from Gentoo Linux, if there was a connection, they have stopped now.--Dittaeva 22:12, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Somalia Change

Hi Dittaeva, thanks for your comments! Before I edited the Somalia article, I went to check on the name in the CIA World Factbook (which I believe is where most of Wikipedia's country profiles come from). In the Somalia government section, the name currently used for the country appears as Somalia, whereas the name Somali Democratic Republic was only used before the country became fractioned off and no official government was in place. It's possible that only the United States government recognizes Somalia as simply Somalia, while the rest of the world sees it as the SDR. It's a sticky subject, but I will check further and report back. -Valentino 01:51, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I don't think I would call it sticky. It's not like those kind of names always tell "the truth" about a country. Did you take the other name changes from the factbook too? That would be kind of strange because I think most country articles are based on the factbook anyway, hm... Anyway, I'd like to see some note on why / how the change was made, if it has been made, but then again, the factbook should be accurate. Are you implying that the US didn't want to call i "democratic" because they don't consider it so? In that case I would certainly stick with democratic.--Dittaeva 14:39, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
After searching through a ton of websites, I was not able to find a definite answer on the official name of Somalia. Most of the sites I visited seemed to concentrate on the secessions of Somaliland and Puntland, the national chaos, and the "no official legitimate government" policy in effect. So I searched through my hard copies, and in the Dorling Kindersley World Reference Atlas I have, Somalia's official name is listed as "Somali Democratic Republic". But this book is from 1994 - so I don't think it is that accurate nowadays. Then, I checked the Britannica 2004 World Almanac (who get their most of their info from the Britannica Encyclopedia), and Somalia's official name is listed as Soomaaliya (in the Somali language), and as As-Sumal (in Arabic). So for the moment, I am guessing that Somalia is the official name of Somalia, and the SDR denotation stopped sometime during the last decade before the war broke out. I did mention that the US might not recognize Somalia as democratic, and that is because the US has no official embassy or diplomatic representation to and from Somalia, but I think I was wrong on that, unless there are websites that say otherwise. If you have found something else, please reply back; for the time being, we could temporarily put the names I put in bold on the Somalia Wiki entry. --Valentino 04:53, Sep 21, 2004 (UTC)
Real nice that you look this up! When I have searched for SDR on Google it lokks like SDR has been used by amond other the UN and Amnesty up until at least 2000, but electionworld claims that it changed its name to Republic of Somalia just before desintegrating. I suppose documents on the new transitinal government should say something on what they call themselves. I think maybe all the different names belong in some histry section and not in the intro.--Dittaeva 13:25, 22 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikinews demo up and running

Hi!

I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.

You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.

If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:59, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Mea Culpa

I do indeed rarely use edit summary, this is because I primarily think about adding actual content. I also didn’t write on talk because I went straight away and started a policy discussion, which will eventually settle the issue, not just about that image, but a whole variety of similar ones all over the Wiki. I do kindly ask you to take a look at my whole body of work, some of it tackling controversial subjects, for instance the David Irving article or the Erich von Manstein article that has been voted a Featured Article. You could always vote Neutral. GeneralPatton 21:03, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Is it ok I move our discussion from Requests for adminship to here? I'll put a note there that it has moved here. GeneralPatton 04:11, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Yes, no prob, move it. I'll look some more at your work when the closingdate is coming nearer. --Dittaeva 20:58, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Thank you, I've also answered to your posting over at Talk:Syphilis. If you have any further questions I'd be glad to answer. GeneralPatton 23:05, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Talk from Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/GeneralPatton

First off, I didn’t delete the image, and before I could copy the description somebody already deleted the original. I also started a policy discussion about this at Wikipedia:Graphic and potentially disturbing images hoping to finally set up a formal policy as the issue is currently not regulated, resulting in frequent revert wars. However, I understand you might be upset since you uploaded the image in question, so please don't let a grudge judge my overall performance. GeneralPatton 16:25, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I know you didn't delete the image (That's why I wrote "apparantly he got ... deleted"). This is from the deletion log: "00:50, 1 Dec 2004 Grunt deleted Image:Vaginal syphilis.jpg (Duplicate.)" and since you uploaded your version at "01:14, 1 Dec 2004" how would you have the possibility to copy the description? I suppose this is an issue for Grunt, but I can't see who else than you could have requested that the image should be deleted. Anyway, you almost never use the edit summary, you haven't discussed (the edit you made at Syphilis were discussed months ago, and a compromise was reached), nor have you even put in any notice about your actions (including your proposed policy). --Dittaeva 19:21, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I announced the policy proposal over at the Village pump. And in the proposal I mentioned the discussion on Talk:Syphilis that I really don’t see was a major compromise as most wanted it just linked, not thumbnailed. The bigger issue there was to remove it or not. GeneralPatton 20:38, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Important! Do not edit non-English Wikipedias!

Sorry to be a bit dramatic here, but you edited on Monday a page in the German Wikipedia. Since your browser is not Unicode-compatible, you destroyed all Unicode charatcers on that page (lots!). Most Wikipedias are using Unicode these days, and editing pages in them with your browser will always destroy any Unicode characters.

You should not edit any pages outside en:wikipedia until you have switched to a compatible browser. You can have a look at this table; the safe choices are the dark green ones. Thanks --Tehut 19:56, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'm very sorry about that. My browser is very much Unicode compatible, the problem is probably that I pasted the text into an external editor i 8-bit mode, because I can't search within form fields in the latest Firefox versions for some strange reason. --Dittaeva 15:16, 3 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] More schools on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion

As of March 25, 2005, there are an additional (6) articles listed for deletion under the POV notion that schools are non-notable (even though this is invalid reasoning as per the Wikipedia deletion policy). Please be aware that the following schools are actively being discussed and voted upon:

In response to this cyclical ordeal, a Schoolwatch programme has been initiated in order to indentify school-related articles which may need improvement and to help foster and encourage continued organic growth. Your comments are welcome and I thank you again for your time. --GRider\talk

[edit] bugzilla:846

  • Halló Dittaeva, I have seen bugzilla:846#c1 today. bugzilla:846 is one of my early bug reports, I did not know much about differences between Latin-1 and UTF-8 wikis and was naive enough to belive about the internal search function and abilities to find pages trough google.
  • Last days I was going trough a serie of 42 articles in 9 languages about the Counties of Romania. 6 wikis where / are using local copies of the maps from commons:Category:Maps of Romania. This is not optimal. The series have not been linked properly because people at nl: and pl: added interlanguage links only at their own wikipedias, bots had no chance to find the articles.
  • Please take a look about what I learned long time ago from Brion but used only one time before. Inserting search words: [1], [2]. It is much more easy to insert search words at image description pages: commons:Image:Arges.png.
  • My original idea was to have the ability to specify meta name="KEYWORDS" content="foo" for Icelandic sheepdog where diacritics maigh be used. Last autumn I did not manage to find some of the words contained in the article with google.
  • Would be happy to know if you like to work on this topic and what opinion you have about it. Best regards Gangleri | Th | T 21:42, 2005 Apr 1 (UTC)

[edit] *.ogg video in honeybee

Couldn't view video. Maybe you could convert to *.gif? Look in "Swarm" there is a *.gif file that works as video. shoefly

.gif wouldn't work, it would be enourmous, or real bad quality. What player did you try with? --Dittaeva 08:08, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I will however, probably make a smaller cut version hopefully with sound, when time comes. --Dittaeva 08:13, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] issues over school articles

In November 2003, there was a VfD debate over Sunset High School (Portland). The debate was archived under Talk:Sunset High School (Portland). What to do with the article is still being contested and has been recently re-nominated for VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Sunset High School (Portland).

I am writing to you because you have participated in such debates before. There still does not exist a wikipedia policy (as far as i can tell) over what to do in regards to articles about specific U.S. public school. My hope is that a real consensus can come out of the debate, and a real policy can take shape. Take part if you are so willing. Kingturtle 02:23, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Oslo metro

Hello Dittaeva,
I'm from the german wikipedia and I search for a Oslo metro aricle 3-4 photos. I saw that you come from Norway, isn't it? Can you take any photos please? Thanks and greetings from Berlin --Jcornelius 14:04, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Norway is a little bigger than that;-) Sorry, I'm from Norway but I don't live in Oslo, and I'm not going there any time soon, nor do I know anyone who have pictures or woul be willing to "take the assignment". However, if I remember, and have my camera with me, I will certainly take some pictures next time I'm there. It's not going to happen anytime soon though. --Dittaeva 19:30, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Er, how come the "small-d" alphasort?

Sorry, just had to ask: why is your user page sorted under "d" instead of "D" here? I guess in principle it's none of my business, but it is a bit confusing on the category page... Is it just an error/oversight? --Wernher 16:37, 22 October 2005 (UTC)

I took a look at the WKP src, and concluded the mis-sorting was due to the all-minuscule category marker. So I fixed it; hope it's OK. :) --Wernher 04:05, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
That's OK, I've perfected it now, the tag itself doesn't have to be CAPS. What do you mean with "WKP src"? --Dittaeva 09:45, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

It is best to serve the factual truth and your support is desperately needed.

[edit] Telio

A tag has been placed on Telio, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Spa toss 18:26, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
