From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ditta Zusa Einzinger is an Austrian pop singer who records under the stage name Lolita. Born Edith Zusar on January 17, 1931 in St. Pölten, Upper Austria, Lolita began singing in local clubs while working as a kindergarten teacher. Discovered in 1956, she began her recording career in 1957. Early recordings typically were songs with a Latin American, South Sea Island, or similar "exotic" theme. In December, 1959, she recorded what would become her only gold record, Seeman, deine Heimat ist das Meer ("Sailor, Your Home is the Sea"), which was a hit single in the United States and Japan as well as in German-speaking Europe in 1960. "Sailor" was one of but a handful of records sung in a language other than English to have been successful in the mainstream American market. Lolita continued recording maritime and South Seas titles with success, though never again achieving a world-wide hit record. In later years, her recordings were more typically Austrian and German folk songs, including yodels. At present, Lolita lives near Salzburg. Twice divorced, Lolita has two children.
