What are the byproducts of starch manufacturing called? --Gbleem 16:14, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

As starch is usually "manufactured" by separating the endosperm of grain, the immediate byproducts are the bran and germ. These components contain a majority of the protein, fat and vitamins of the grain (valuable as fodder), whereas the endosperm contains the majority of carbohydrates (useful for fermenting). Other byproducts (depending on the cereal used) include the chaff (removed during threshing) and any straw (the rest of the plant) usually left in the field. See whole_grain and chaff for more information. Benjamindees (talk) 23:06, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
