[edit] Receiver data needed

We need to receive data for the receivers, including the industry-first DISH Player-DVR 942. Info available at http://www.dishnetwork.com/. --Acela Express

[edit] Channel removals

Removed claims that Music Choice and future programming packages will be added, as Dish Network has made no such announcements.

Also, added Oxygen from channel listing since DISH Network does provide this programming and has replaced Lifetime Movie Network on Jan 16, 2006. It does now on Channel 127.

[edit] Time for a re-naming

The Wikipedia Manual of Style on trademarks says to avoid all-caps in trade names:

Follow our usual text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment

RENAMING IS COMPLETE. —chris.lawson (talk) 02:40, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

Wrong. Some channel names in this article are still written that way. Eh, I'll get to it later. --/ɛvɪs/ /tɑːk/ /kɑntɹɪbjuʃ(ə)nz/ 12:32, August 1, 2005 (UTC)
Regarding capitalization in the term DISH Network, DISH is an acronym for "Digital Sky Highway" and should remain as DISH, not Dish. --KJRehberg 15:13, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Needs redirect attention

Someone -- preferably not me, as I have very little time of late -- needs to go through and fix all the redirects from the old DISH Network page:

What Links Here

Post a note here if you make some effort toward completing this little project. Thanks. —chris.lawson (talk) 02:28, 4 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Dish Network does not have PBS Kids!

So, do us a favor, people, and stop adding it. And yes, I'm a subscriber. --/ɛvɪs/ /tɑːk/ /kɑntɹɪbjuʃ(ə)nz/ 12:36, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism section should be added

Recently, Dish network has had contract problems with certian channels over the years, I think it would be best to add that to the article. Asm2750

[edit] PBS distant feeds

What if a market lacks a PBS member? How can people in those markets view PBS programming? TitanTV has WNET and PBS-XD in its Dish list, but I don't see them in my EPG, so I'm guessing those are for areas without a PBS member. Could anybody tell me why these are in the list? --/ɛvɪs/ /tɑːk/ /kɑntɹɪbjuʃ(ə)nz/ 22:56, 25 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] German TV

Should the red German TV wikilink really be DW-TV (Deutsche Welle), for which there is an article? --GilliamJF 00:52, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

No. German TV isn't (wasn't) the same thing as Deutsche Welle, although they carried some DW programming. Deutsche Welle is a German government operation, similar to PBS in the U.S., while German TV is a commercial joint venture of ARD, ZDF and Deutsche Welle. Effective 01 January 2006, German TV on DISH Network has been replaced by DW programming. --QuicksilverT @ 23:19, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Chart on subscriber count

Why does the number/year "2000" appear 3 different times (consecutively) with different numbers for each one? --Nguerrero03 08:28, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

The chart has no tie to reality whatsoever. Dish Network didn't even begin broadcasting until March 1996, it reached 1 million subscribers in December 1997, etc. The current chart is pure fantasy.

[edit] Affiliated Program

The Affiliated program is a way that satellite television including Dish network has been using for a length of time now that allows them to reward groups by attraction new customers. one such example is satellitesimplified.com which provides a simple way a link customers that wish to reach Dish Network with assistance from the support of satellitesimplified.com Affiliated Program where it can be more easily verified and modified by authors. --p.alex woodard 22:06, 12 august 2007

[edit] Major edit summary

I made some major edits this weekend:

1) Moved satellite fleet section to EchoStar Communications Corporation since both listings were different (and wrong) and EchoStar is the entity that operates the fleet.

2) Changed branding to DISH Network. That's how it's spelled, and if you disagree write here.

3) Added lots of verified and corrected tons of technological information and terminology (I own many of them).

4) Moved pictures of dishes around and added SuperDISH 121, and I welcome edits to move the pictures a bit but be CAREFUL they are anchored to each dish type heading.

5) I really think the channel listing should either be removed or put into a tiny table or other page that this page links to.

6) Fixed this broken discussion page.

--KJRehberg 02:13, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Number 2. Is "DISH" an acronym for something? If so, what? If not, then WP:MOS-TM prefers "Dish". If you don't like that fact, then argue it on WP:MOS-TM first. Wikipedia (you, me, us) are not obligated to uphold a marketing style. (I am short on time, so this brevity doesn't imply that I am suggesting an opinion on your other edits.) --Charles Gaudette 00:46, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
I tracked down my own answer. DISH = DIgital Sky Highway (http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/satellites/echo1/index.shtml). Though I did run into unauthoritative people saying that it was originally Digital Information Sky Highway. --Charles Gaudette 18:29, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

Yup, it is an old acronym for "Digital Sky Highway" and I sometimes refer to it as "DiSH" instead of "DISH". Thanks for looking into the fact that DISH is really an acronym and is better capitalized. --KJRehberg 03:54, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Competing companies

Competing companies are entirely relevant. Returned to the article. --KJRehberg 16:43, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Court TV rift -- on CNN and other channels.

On CNN and other channels there's been an ad citing DISH Network's drop of Court TV. The ad claims if you're a customer and want the channels back "Take A Stand" and call +1-800-710-1922. If you call that number they play yet more propaganda, and then- tell you to press "1" to find out what you can do. Upon doing so, they offer contact information for the competitor DirecTV and "Your local cable provider." Does anyone happen to know who is paying for this ad aimed at thinning DISH Network's subscriber numbers until they bend on the policy? CaribDigita 21:05, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Source Needed

Do not post anything unless it is 100% fact and you have a source to back it up.

"According to surveys, it is currently the number one satellite program provider in the United States."

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:DISH Network Logo.png

Image:DISH Network Logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:01, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HD Section added?

I hear that Dish Network will be adding more HD Channels to the line up should there be a section on the HD Programing and the new HD additions? DaveRapp101 19:49, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I am going to update the article to include the problematic launch on March 14th, 2008 of the SES AMC-14 satellite that was to be used by Dish Network to increase its number of high definition channels. Duedilly (talk) 04:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MPEG4

I've read in some technical forums that DN has yet to broadcast in MPEG4, and instead marks the new HD channels as only compatible with MPEG4 IRDs, while still using MPEG2 for the actual compression, in order to force users to upgrade. Can anyone provide a cite confirming/denying this state of the stream? Alvis 04:12, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] NHL network

should we add nhl network on channel 559? GD1223 13:49, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] DISH Network Corporation

EchoStar Communications Corporation is now known as DISH Network Corporation. --KJRehberg (talk) 17:05, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Voom is now gone from Dish Network ~ 78-3

Should there be s story on the voom take down. All 15 went down last week and 22 new channels were added 68.222.73.151 (talk) 13:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Satellite Dish section restored

The Satellite Dish section has been restored. Most of this section was deleted by vandalism and never restored when the vandalism was removed. --KJRehberg (talk) 18:30, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
