[edit] Is it time to break this article up?

At 74 KB, this article is beginning to groan.

Here are my thoughts on how it could be done:

Om, which is the largest single chunk, gets his own article.

The Djelibeybian gods are merged with the relatively small Djelibeybi article

The troll gods section could be merged with Troll (Discworld)

The Auditors of Reality get their own article. Serendipodous 11:06, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I've marked the article for splitting and suggested that Gods of Dunmanifestin and Anthromorphic personification each get their own articles. Aiden Fisher 14:00, 5 July 2007 (UTC) (I also moved this to the top as it is important).
As it has been more than a week I figured I would create two new articles Pantheon of Dunmanifestin and Anthropomorphic personifications (Discworld). Aiden Fisher 23:39, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
Splitting off personifications I can deal with. But it seems odd that an article called "Discworld Gods" that has the gods of Dunmanifestin as its main image doesn't have the Dunmanifestin gods in it. I think a better idea would be to split off Small Gods, since they're a specific separate concept and can be treated separately.Serendipodous 13:25, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] advice please

Hogfather, Soul Cake Duck, Summoning Dark: Gods, or personifications? Serendipodous 16:04, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

The latter GreatGodOm 23:03, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Summoning Dark has been shifted over; still not sure about the Hogfather and Soul Cake Duck though. If they're personifications, is Fate a personification too? Serendipodous 10:18, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Shifted over. I realised that I still get presents at Christmas, even though I don't believe in Santa, so, that would make the Hogfather a personification, even though he started out as a god.Serendipodous 16:05, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Bit more complex that that. He seems to have started out as a personification of midwinter, then become the god of getting all your food stored before the frosts, then dropped in significance to be the personification of midwinter again, in a different way. I think. Daibhid C 12:27, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
It's stated in Hogfather that "old gods do new jobs", referring to the man himself. The Hogfather seems to have started out as a bona fide god. He has all the godly attributes and is better at the whole judging and rewarding than 'proper' gods/ Mon Vier 00:27, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Good point. Also, since I wrote that, it has of course turned out that there's a completely different personification of midwinter. Daibhid C 12:37, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

should the gods the silver hord dress up as in the last hero get a mention.

No, probably not. Everyone in the list has at least something going for them other than just "saying" they're a god. --Yar Kramer 03:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] P'Tang P'Tang

Splitting hairs here, but what can we say about him? I don't have Small Gods to hand, but it seems to me from the overall arc of the books that a god with only 51 worshippers would qualify as a small god. Do we know for certain that he is on Dunmanifestin? Serendipodous 19:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

He's one of the gods Om starts a fight with when he busts up the place, so yes. Daibhid C 00:31, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
OK. Swapped. Serendipodous 11:25, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Omnian Quisition

The motto of the Omnian Quisition "Quius testiculos habes, habeas cardia et cerebellum," which Pratchett loosely translates as "When you have their full attention, you have their hearts and minds." but it seems to me that it should translate as "When you have their testicles, you have their hearts and minds."—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.126.49.183 (talk • contribs)

That's the joke. – Quoth 03:46, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just so that no one freaks out...

I didn't delete the Death of Rats. I've shifted him to the Death article. Serendipodous 15:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removed Bogeymen

As there was no useful information and they were irrelevant

See: Undead (Discworld)

Conrad.Irwin 17:34, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

No. Bogeymen are personifications. Even the Undead article says they are, and Hogfather makes the connection pretty explicit. They are anthropomorphic personifications of fear. Although they are discussed in other articles, they are sitll personifications, so the link was valid. Serendipodous 18:16, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inspiration of the offlians...

While it is possible that Sobek may be part of the inspiration, I find it plausible from the description of their faith that Offlians are a reference to the "heretic" sect of Ophites. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Cimon Avaro (talkcontribs) 07:24, 25 February 2007 (UTC).

Beyond Offler and the Serpent both being reptiles, what makes you say that? Daibhid C 11:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mothra

In the discworld CDROM game, Mothra was mentioned as the goddess of the Amazon hublander chick. It made me laugh. Should Mothra be on here? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 128.187.0.164 (talk) 03:06, 15 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Nuggan

What happened to Nuggan? --81.149.57.8 10:11, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

He was shifted back to Dunmanifestin. I don't really like the change, since Nuggan is dead, and is no longer on Dunmanifestin. I think I might move him back if no one objects. Serendipodous 13:23, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gigalith

Isn't necessarily related to Gilgamesh, or anything else.

The name means "very big rock"; a good name for a Troll god. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.52.149.88 (talk) 07:15, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
