Districts of Kerala

The state of Kerala, in southern India, has 14 revenue districts. Most of the districts in Kerala has the same name as the important town or city in the district. (Exception is Wayanad district).
These 14 districts are further divided into 62 taluks, 1453 revenue villages and 1007 Gram panchayats.

A District Collector has been appointed in each districts to be in charge of the governance of the district. They are also officers of the Indian Administrative Service and are the most powerful government officials of the district.

- Alappuzha (old anglicised name "Allepey")
- Kottayam
- Idukki

- Thrissur (old anglicised name "Trichur")
- Palakkad (also called "Palghat")
- Malappuram
- Kozhikode (old anglicised name "Calicut")
- Wayanad
- Kannur (old anglicised name "Cannanore")
- Kasaragod
There are demand for new districts in following regions:
- Muvattupuzha, comprising parts of Ernakulam, Idukky, Kottayam, and Thrissur districts
- Tiruvalla, comprising parts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Kottayam districts
- Sabarimala, comprising parts of Pathanamthitta, Idukky, and Kollam districts
- Mahe/Thalassery, comprising parts of Kannur, and Kozhikode districts
