IMDb profile |
Distant Shores is a comedy-drama first shown in the UK on ITV in January 2005.
Peter Davison plays high flying London plastic surgeon Bill Shore. His marriage is on the rocks and his wife Lisa played by Samantha Bond has got a six month research job on a small Northumbrian island called Hildasay. Bill reluctantly agrees to relocate on the island with his wife, daughter and son. His son has a make-believe father (Malcom). His daughter Kate, is obsessed with "suicide", pretending her wrists are cut ("cochineal and cornflour"), and standing at the edge of the cliff edge on the island where she meets a boy who "saves" her from jumping (and who later turns out to be a homosexual).
The island's residents provide a welcoming party but despite this, Bill hates the place and can't wait to return to London. He takes the job of temporary island doctor and things go from bad to worse for him. A second series has been filmed but remains unshown in the UK as of October 2007.
