Dissident Warwick is a student magazine based in and around the University of Warwick. [edit] Content

The content of each issue of the magazine represents a reflection of those involved in that particular version, rather than any firm direction. However the zine is considered and intended to be both progressive and anti-neoliberal, aiming to provide a forum for ideas and positions not normally reflected in other campus media. The magazine is generally split into sections, such as 'thought', 'analysis', 'student activism' and 'news'. The focus of articles ranges from the University and the Student's Union, to global politics and activism.

[edit] Editorial Policy and Practice

The magazine is a collective enterprise. All articles are submitted to the group blog, and editorial amendments are suggested as comments. The author then decides which changes to incorporate. This method aims to keep elements of both autonomy and collaboration integral to the project. When the editing is finished, the group chooses which articles should be included in the issue.

[edit] The Blog

Around 1000 to 2000 paper copies of each issue are distributed, the articles within are also submitted to the public blog, where readers may comment and debate with the authors about their individual articles. Some third parties also select articles from the blog to include on third-party sites.

[edit] Dissident Hip-Hop

Dissident Warwick has in the past received funding from the Reinvention Centre and from the University of Warwick Students' Union, however it's main source of income is from the music nights it regularly runs. Dissident Hip-Hop features local artists, and has become a popular music night in the area. In early 2008 a Dissident Hip-Hop CD was released to support the release of the second issue of the magazine. In June 2008 Dissident Unplugged, a new night dedicated to acoustic music, will begin.
