Diskono
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Founded in 1998 and termed a "a Scottish multi media cabal masquerading as a record label" [1] by the press, Diskono was initially based in Scotland but currently, with its membership in constant flux, the constituent pieces of its complex structure are spread out all over the globe ; most notably New York, London and Brussels. The known and affiliated members of Diskono were/are Klaus Oldanburg, Ruth Random, Gask, Dr. Barnes Advocaat, Gunter Saxenhammer, Ttocshagg Forfib, Joel Ongthorne, Kosten Koper ; although these may be pseudonyms for the same person or people. Together or alone, they / he / she operated a record label releasing sound art & "avant-garde flicks of the wrist" as well as curating exhibitions (most notably 'Revisionland' by Alejandara & Aeron which was a Prix Ars Electronia winner), playing and promoting concerts. Diskono released music by notable figures such as Felix Kubin, Alejandra & Aeron, Kid 606, Pimmon, Nomex, Ashtray Navigations, JaDa, People Like Us, Francisco Lopez, Goodiepal, V/vm, Hrvatski, Aavikko.
From 1999 - 2001 Diskono infamously held sporadic "physical remix" club nights in which the audience were encouraged to bring along records, deface them and then DJ with them. This experiment led to two "physical remix" 7" record releases with Aerospace Soundwise (Todd A. Carter) and Prix Ars Electronica winner Janek Schaefer.
In 2003 a sub label of Diskono, for "other experiments" Penthouse Hotplate appeared ; to date there has been two releases by The Phenomenological Boys & Abuse (whose members include celebrated Scottish painter Alexander Guy AKA Donny Royale & ex-Fall guitarist Tommy Crooks AKA Farmhand)
Considered to be no longer active [2], this press release posits the contrary.
