Disco Deewane was an Urdu-language pop album of Pakistan sung by Nazia Hassan, released in 1980. It was the most selling album of that time in Asia. It changed trends of music in India and Pakistan. It was the first South Asian album that was also hit in Brazil, Russia, South Africa and Indonesia.

After the success of Aap Jaisa Koi, Biddu decided to produce a private album with Nazia Hassan. He did contract with H.M.V India to produce an album with Nazia Hassan. This Biddu composed with eight songs. Biddu thought that it would like other albums it will do good business in the market. So he sent this album to Mr. Sood in India.

Mr. Sood asked for the name from Biddu. He suggested the name something like Disco and Dil to Deewane. But suddenly he came up with Disco Deewane. Biddu went to his studio he composed a whole song in one night, the other day Nazia & Zoheb arrived to studio and recorded a song which broke the rules. The song became super hit.

“I was thinking it will be sold 4 lacks in copy but it was sold 14 millions in all over the world especially in it was super hit in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia & Brazil.” Said Biddu.

Nazia Hassan became superstar she told people that playback singers can also release their private album. The album was on US Billboard. It hit charts like Saturday Night Fever. Nazia Hassan’s song Disco Deewane became number one in Brazil Charts which was amazing and it was first time that any song of Pakistani Artist was on western charts.

“Well I don’t Know, I think the reason is we never copied anyone and we always tried to come up with original music and young people can identify it and above all simply because we do what we enjoy the most.” Nazia replied.

Nazia Hassan recorded some videos in London for her album. She recorded Disco Deewane English version Dreamer Deewane for UK charts and it was the first video of Pakistan. In Pakistan there was an era of Zia-ul-Haq and he was introducing Islamic revolution. The video was banned in Pakistan because the young duo dancing feet and innocent faces was not acceptable for him. But these bans didn’t reduce the fame but it was increasing day by day.
