Category talk:Disasters by year

I suggest to create a table with the following columns:
Year Type of Disaster Number of Casualties (accurate or estimation) Number of Injuries (accurate or estimation) Comments
Maybe we could create a similar table with wars, famines, epidemics, revolutions, ecological degradation, etc.
An analysis like this could be a more ordered approach to see wheter or not catastrophic prophecies and claims that these kind of calamities are increasing, is there a real trend the last years or is it just that the world is better informed than in the past?
See for yourselves the prophecies and chastisements announced in this page www.christinagallagher.org
- This sounds like an idea for an article, wikibook or separate project. The table itself would be interesting, but using it for "trend analysis" of the Nostradamus type is a silly idea. Using it to say sensible things would be OK, but I fear that too many people will junp on the "End of Days" bandwagon instead. Your comment "or is it just that the world is better informed" hits it on the head I think. That would be probably be the ultimate result of such an analysis, and wouldn't tell us much more than what we suspect already. A lot of effort to confirm an intuitive result. - PS. Not only are we better informed, but there are more of us, and more of us living in the wrong places, where natural disasters will increasingly affect us. Carcharoth 14:56, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
