[edit] Works
Writing mystery stories since 1991, Rühmann uses his own name since 1996; for several years he published his stories using his middle names "Günter Hilmar" as a pen name.
The main characters of most of his stories are the commissars Walter Schweiger and Thekla Braun. The earlier episodes also make use of the commissars Kreutz, Bube, and Hertrampf. Residing almost exclusively in Braunschweig and its neighborhoods, the mystery stories feature a distinct local color.
Rühmann's pursuit of authenticity is outstanding; his stories are often inspired by real cases of the Braunschweig area. Political events such as the Fall of the Wall also play a role.
The teacher, lay preacher, and local politician often uses his fiction for social criticism, which can have an instructive or moralizing effect.
