Direct Scientific was founded in 1998 in Los Angeles, California. The company offers products focusing on nuclear radiation protection for environmental health and safety, nuclear emergency, homeland security, health physics, medical physics and nuclear medicine applications. Direct Scientific offers thousands of different products to customers throughout the world. Products include radiation survey meters^[1], ion chambers^[2], Geiger counters, dosimeters^[3], radiation shielding ^[4], lead, lead wool blankets^[5], lead glass^[6], Clear Pb acrylic^[7], borated polyethelyne neutron shielding^[8], HEPA filter vacuum cleaners^[9] (for lead and nuclear abatement), Marinelli beakers^[10], portable fume hoods^[11],dosimetry, air sampling equipment^[12], fume hoods, Herculite^[13], and calibration sources. Recently, Direct Scientific introduced Radguard "lead underwear" for prostate cancer patients who were implanted with radioactive seeds (brachytherapy). This "lead underwear" is leaded vinyl covered in fabric. It has shielding properties which protect family members from radiation emitted from the radioactive iodine and palladium seeds within the cancer patient. Direct Scientific also manufactures their own radiation shielding.
