DirectSong
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DirectSong is an online music store for video game soundtracks.
DirectSong currently has thirteen releases available for download. Soundtracks available include music from the Guild Wars series, Prey, Supreme Commander, and The Elder Scrolls series, to name a few. While most of the music is predominantly written by Jeremy Soule and his brother, Julian Soule, DirectSong wants to offer the music of other video game artists, and is busy trying to acquire rights to distribute other game's soundtracks.
The albums are encoded using Windows Media Audio with Windows Media DRM protection, meaning they are not playable on non-Windows machines. Most of the albums are encoded at 320 kbit/s. DirectSong's licensing allows you to have the music on three computers permanently, allows 2 temporary 8-hour leases in 24 hours, and allows you to burn soundtracks to CD for personal use. About every 6 months, an additional license is added to accounts if an account has run out. The albums themselves can be downloaded as often as needed. The site, store, and programming was done by Stephen Clarke-Willson.
Over time, DirectSong may occasionally add or change tracks to albums, as was the case when Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance was released, more tracks appeared on the Supreme Commander Official Soundtrack. Such changes are free to those who have purchased the album, and only a re-download is needed.
