Seav, those are some rather amazing edits you just made, without any discussion (as far as I can tell). Please see Wikipedia:Consensus. Perhaps the list of municipal projects section deserved to be removed due to this guideline. But everything else you deleted? I would encourage you to take a closer look at the no directory policy. Do you have anything to back up the removal other than your own rationale? If there has been some discussion that I've missed, then I apologize for my ignorance. --Jacintos 15:47, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- Have you even read the Wikipedia is not a directory policy? It says there that we shouldn't list everything about the topic, especially if it's just going to look like a phonebook or business directory lists. A list of shopping centers with street addresses is a directory. A list of restaurants is a directory. Real estate developers, hotels and accomodations (with phone numbers?!), list of hospitals, TV stations, radio stations, etc.
- What's acceptable is to write most of these, and their impact and importance with respect to Dipolog City, into a coherent piece of prose. Just because there's a Jollibee in Dipolog doesn't mean that we need to add Jollibee as a bullet point somewhere in the Dipolog City article. The aim is to create an encyclopedia article on Dipolog City, not a list of everything that can be seen in Dipolog City, even if it's true. Do you understand now? --seav 02:49, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- By the way, Consensus only applies when there is disagreement. Since there has been no discussion regarding the deletion of the lists in Dipolog City, there's no consensus to follow. Now that you're disagreeing, Jacintos, now is the time to discuss and build consensus. --seav 02:53, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

- I apologize, Seav, if I came over as a bit cross before. Of course, I would not have referred to the directory policy had I not read it thoroughly. I think I understand your rationale better now and I agree, having thought more about it, that certain sections may be beyond the scope of a Wikipedia article. On the other hand, I feel that other sections such as the ones on shopping centers, medical services, and education are quite useful in the discussion of Dipolog. Perhaps the main problem with these is their presentation. For example, I consider Makati as a rather good example of an article about a city. Yet it discusses shopping centers, transportation, and even includes a list of the educational institutions in the area. The difference in that case, however, is that the content is not presented solely in a list format. What do you think about the article on Makati? --Jacintos 06:12, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

- It's ok. I understand how you feel about having your work deleted (but it's still in the history pages so nothing entered into this article is ever really deleted). I actually have yet to see a very good article written about a city in the Philippines. Among Wikipedia's Featured Articles and Good Articles, there is no Philippine city or municipality that's made the cut yet. (Check those pages out to look for nice examples of well-written articles about cities/towns/municipalities to get inspiration.) The Makati City article is useful, though it's a bit directory-ish in some places. It still needs quite a bit of work to be accepted into the Good Article criteria.

- Anyway, you might want to see a very related discussion on Talk:Zamboanga City. Thevarious lists in that city's article were also deleted and there's an effort to rewrite and create coherent paragraphs from those lists. See the Tourism section for example.

- If you want a place to write travel-guide-like information about Dipolog City, the Wikitravel page on Dipolog would certainly need your help. There you can create a directory of all places to eat (but of course, you should highlight some recommendations at the top), all the hotels to sleep in with phone numbers and prices as well. --seav 06:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

- Interesting. I wish I had seen that part of the Zamboanga City talk page earlier. I'm adding the content you removed to this discussion page for the benefit of others who might wonder what happened to the content (and so it won't be reduplicated unnecessarily). --Jacintos 20:08, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
