Diploma Work
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
To become a full member, some artistic academies formally require an artist to produce a work of art (usually a painting) representative of their œuvre, which the academy will then keep. Diploma Work is the title given to such a piece at the Royal Academy in London (where some 18th and 19th century examples are now on display), and tableau de réception was the title given to it at the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture in Paris.
