Diosdado 'Prince' Gabi, a Filipino Southpaw who is managed and trained by Freddie Roach.[1] He trains at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California, USA.

Diosdado Gabi fought for the WBF super flyweight title on May 8th, 2001 against Samson Dutch Boy Gym. He lost by points in a 12 round match. Samson Dutch Boy Gym retired undefeated at 43-0.

Gabi's biggest fight was against Vic Darchinyan on March 3rd, 2006. He fought the then undefeated Darchinyan for his IBF and IBO Flyweight championship belts. Gabi was caught with a fierce left punch in the 8th round.[2]

Gabi helped fellow friend and fellow Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire prepare to fight Vic Darchinyan. Nonito Donaire went on to knock out Vic Darchinyan to win the IBF and IBO championship belts. "Donaire said Gabi “taught me a little bit and told me what this guy (Darchinyan) did and he helped out a lot for this fight.” "[3]

On March 16, 2008, NABO bantamweight champion Mexican Abner Mares, (16-0, 10KOs), stopped Filipino Diosdado Gabi (30-4-1, 21 KOs), in two-rounds.[4]

Gabi is married and has a young son the he left back in the Philippines to fight for a world championship.[5] "We come from a very poor family. My father is a fisherman. All we eat sometimes is what he catches. I try to send them as much money as often as I can." [6] Gabi is close friends and has trained with Filipino boxers Nonito Donaire and Glenn Donaire.

  • 2003-11-09 Won WBC International flyweight title by TD over Randy Mangubat. (Technical decision due to a Gabi cut caused by an accidental headbutt. Gabi down in the 6th.)

[edit] Legal Controversy

On August 17, 2007 Gabi was ordered arrested for breaching a contract with North Cotabato Vice Governor Emmanuel Piñol. MTC Judge Antonina Escovilla issued the warrant of arrest based on the complaint of Piñol who sought P4.8 million from Gabi.[7]
