Diogo Ortiz de Villegas

D. Diogo Ortiz de Villegas "Calzadilla", was theologian and astronomer of King John II of Portugal. He was born in Calzadilla, Spain, in 1457 ca. and died in Almeirim, in 1519. He was Bishop of Tanger, later Bishop of Viseu.
Ortiz taught on the writings of Cato, Terence, Virgil, Sallust and some parts of the Bible, the theory of the planets and some elementary matters about astrology he heard from Tomás de Torres, an eminent doctor and astrologer of that time.
