Diocese of Recanati
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Diocese of Recanati was a Roman Catholic diocese in Italy.
It was founded in 1239. It was merged with the Diocese of Loretto to form the Diocese of Recanati and Loreto in either 1591 or 1592. Its name was changed back to the Diocese of Recanti in 1934.
In 1986 it merged with the Diocese of Macerata-Tolentino, the Diocese of Osimo e Cingoli and the Diocese of San Severino to form the Diocese of Macerata-Tolentino-Recanati-Cingoli-Treia.[1]
During its early history it often lost and regained its episcopal status due to Papal politics.[2]
