Diocese of Ischia

The Italian Catholic diocese of Ischia is an island in Campania. It is a suffragan of the archdiocese of Naples.[1]

The first Bishop of Ischia, Pietro, was appointed in 1179. He was present at the Third Lateran Council. Other bishops were:

  • Fra Bartolomeo Borsolari (1359), an Augustinian, brother of Blessed Giacomo Borsolari, the Dominican, who is buried in the church of S. Domenico;
  • the learned Spanish Cistercian, Michele Cosal (1453);
  • Girolamo Rocca (1672);
  • Michele Cotignola (1692).[2]
