Diocese of Cava and Sarno

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Italian Catholic diocese of Cava e Sarno, in Campania, existed from 1818 to 1986.

In 1818 the historic diocese of Cava was united with the diocese of Sarno. The origin of the diocese of Cava was the abbey of La Trinità della Cava; it was created a diocese in 1394. At a later point, in 1513, the abbey itself was removed from the diocese of Cava[1]. Also in 1818, the diocese of Nocera dei Pagani was united to Cava; but only until 1834[2].

In 1986 the diocese of Cava e Sarno was suppressed. It was divided into Cava, becoming part of the archdiocese of Amalfi-Cava de' Tirreni, and Sarno, which went to the diocese of Nocera Inferiore-Sarno.[3]
