Diocese of Armagh (Church of Ireland)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Diocese of Armagh is one of twelve dioceses (geographic subdivisions) of the Church of Ireland. It straddles the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, lying mainly in the republic's County Louth and Northern Ireland's former Counties Tyrone and Armagh.

The diocese traces its history to St Patrick in the 5th century, who founded the see; it is headed by his successor, the present-day Archbishop of Armagh, who has his seat in St Patrick's Cathedral in Armagh.

There is also a Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Armagh.
