[edit] Alan Johnston

Please do not use talk pages such as Talk:Alan Johnston for general discussion of the topic. They are for discussion related to improving the article. They are not to be used as a forum or chat room. See here for more information. Thank you. – Chacor 09:20, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I apologise. I'm a newbie here and was responding to the section about the BBC coverage because I believe that the BBC's lack of impartiality in relating to the kidnappings of Alan Johnston and Gilad Shalit was a contributing factor to the deletion of Shalit from the 'see also' section of the article. As the only other man currently held hostage in Gaza (according to some reports by the same group who has Johnston), Shalit is entirely relevant to the Johnston article, despite the BBC's apparently conscious decision to distance the two kidnappings. I take on board your request and the Wikipedia guideline to avoid forum-like chat on discussion pages however and shall avoid doing so in the future. Dino246 10:40, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MRAP

Hey Man, do you have any idea what this Armor Holdings (S&S) MRAP looks like? I haven't found any pictures or information or anything online. Peace. Tmaull 21:55, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Actually, there is one picture (really old), but not much info, other than its based on the FMTV, which isn't much of a shock. Tmaull 22:00, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
I also only know that it's FMTV based. Was quite surprised when I saw the order (and its size). Presumably they'll put out a proper press release in the next few days. Dino246 06:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
Aha, I just found a photo here[1] but it looks like a pre-bid computer rendering rather than an actual photograph of the finished article. Clearly the Maxxpro pictured there is too. Dino246 06:34, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Plasan Sasa

Hi, I think the article needs to be translated too, but I feel uncomfortable translating anything that I have absolutely no knowledge about. Since you also speak Hebrew, maybe you can try it and I will add to the Hebrew article. Otherwise, I might do this sometime later when there's time to find out more information about Plasan Sasa. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 08:22, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] POV and referencing

Hi, Regarding your edits to the Lexus article, please be advised that you need to provide reliable source for all statements that you make. Adding your personal opinion to Wikipedia articles is not acceptable. Wikipedia does not feature editorials. Even if you command a very profound understanding of the market strategies employed by Lexus you will need to support all claims and statements you add with reliable sources. If you do not comply with Wikipedia policy, particularly WP:POV, WP:OR administrative action may be taken in order to ensure our quality standards. Remember that the criteria for inclusion in Wikiepdia is not truth, but verifiablitity, and that original research as well as opinion are not allowed. Thank you. Signaturebrendel 09:19, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

I wrote nothing that isn't supported by the source material already referenced. I quote directly from [2]
Indeed, Lexus would be ahead if it had the same lineup in Japan that it has in other countries. But many of its upscale models are sold under the Toyota brand. For instance, the RX is known in Japan as the Toyota Harrier. Phillips expects Lexus to grow as the automaker transfers more Toyota vehicles to its premium brand.
"They have a heritage there that's different than what they bring to new markets," Nerad said, "that being the heritage of the Toyota corporation."
My efforts on the Lexus article are precisely because it currently suffers from consistent subtle bias. There is a de facto article 'owner' who makes very selective use of source material to promote the Lexus brand. I have absolutely nothing against Lexus (or for it for that matter). I am merely trying to maintain a level of balance in the article in the interests of Wikipedia. I was not the first person to point out that the Lexus article comes across like an advert or fansite project. I do however appear to be the only editor trying to keep it in check. I'd appreciate the support of the administrators, I have only Wikipedia's reputation at heart. Dino246 11:38, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] RFC/USER discussion concerning you (Dino246)

Hello, Dino246. Please be aware that a request for comments has been filed concerning your conduct on Wikipedia. The RFC entry can be found by your name in this list, and the actual discussion can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Dino246, where you may want to participate.-- Enigma3542002 22:42, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Well no one responded or backed you up so according to WP:RFC policy it as been deleted. If you want to discuss your issue with me now like an adult then I am happy to engage in conversation with you. There is no need to take a lawyer's approach to a simple disagreement over POV in the Lexus article. Dino246 09:40, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Cite web

Hi and nice work... I've been trying to clean up your referencing on MRAP (armored vehicle). Could you use Template:Cite web especially for some of the links on that page which have died... if there is not proper citation information it make it especially hard to know what to do with a dead link or to find the article again at another source, possibly if the website has changed the article location. I have not been using the template, instead opting for quick and dirty method of link to article title... but when you add in new links it would be nice to use such a template. gren グレン 05:55, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Unsourced additions to the Ariel Atom entry"

Hi, Ian is not a friend, just someone I met at Ariel. He does work for them, I know as I went to visit them. I'm not that surprised that Google doesn't have any information on Ian, he is just a car designer, not a famous celeb. I doubt they thave information on every car designer. Feel free to contact them by calling on (+44) 01460 78817 and asking them if Ian Midgley works from them. Once you find I am right, please put the information on him designing the new Atoms back. Thanx —Preceding unsigned comment added by DineshAdv (talkcontribs) 20:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Atom Ariel discussion forum.

I am new to Wiki. Help me "sincerely" understand how an Ariel Atom forum is not important to the discussion of the Car? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Karlogtm (talkcontribs) 03:22, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

I responded on your talk page. Dino246 (talk) 13:58, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] JLTV

I think they are right. Millenworks is sort of a maybe. I think they are involved in developing some technology for it, but they won't be involved with the production of it. Now that Armor Holdings is BAE, I don't know if they are still involved with LockMart. Tmaull (talk) 21:52, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Samuel Green (rapper)

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Samuel Green (rapper), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:UnitedKingdomofRacism.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:UnitedKingdomofRacism.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:00, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fiat X1/9

Thanks for your note. This is an obscure WP:AWB bug, I have raised a bug report. Rich Farmbrough, 17:29 5 February 2008 (GMT).

[edit] Image:MRAP Cat 1 navistar.jpg dispute

Hello Dino, I moved your comment from my talk page to the image talk page. I also responded there. I would find it inappropriate to delete it myself at this point, so I'll leave it to another administrator to decide what to do. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 20:27, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Plasan M1114GR HMMWV.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Plasan M1114GR HMMWV.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ricky81682 (talk) 20:32, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. When I uploaded it, it was the only image I could find of the Greek M1114GR. Since then, a copyright-free image has been uploaded so I replaced the disputed fair-use image from Plasan. Dino246 (talk) 22:40, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism of EDO Corporation

I edited the article again. This time I did it in stages, since User:Statecorporateresearch (a SPA?) undid everything when he reverted instead of just trying to remove the bits he did not like.

I also restored the "unbalanced" template and explained why. He cant keep removing it if two editors are telling him theres a problem and if he removes it again I'll go to an administrator. Wikipedia is very conservative about avoiding potential litigation, and an article like this about a large and wealthy corporation is bound to concern senior editors. [edit] Luxury Vehicle

I noticed your comment on the discussion page for the Luxury vehicle article. I find the entire article reprehensible because its so completely vague. If there is such a thing, its a "weasel article." What can be done? 842U (talk) 21:41, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion of Image:MaxxPro Cat1 IL.jpg

A tag has been placed on Image:MaxxPro Cat1 IL.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [3], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Polly (Parrot) 22:44, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
