Yes pity about this current situation. Anyway I have an article request. Gunavarma I, an early Kannada writer is missing. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 21:58, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Do you mean the above request or the report? I think you are aware of me as an editor also and its not something I would normally do -in fact I haven't reported an existing user like this before and would rather not have to. Over the last few weeks I have seen a lot happen with this user and if his editing appeared constructive and really helping improve articles with bad sources or text which I know he is capable of I would be the first the congratulate him. However it is a string of events over the last few weeks which makes me seriously question what his intentions are particularly when he shows an uncompromising attitude to other users and brands their efforts to improve wikipedia as "a pile of garbage". It is his attempts to speedy entire articles wihtout consensus and his attempts to wipe out an image licensing for Bollywood actors that I spent many weeks in trying to help WIkiProject India and wikipedia with that I see as destructive , I haven't got weeks to waste on trying hard to help wikipedia permanantly only to get another editor attempting to discredit it and slap it in my face. As he continues to edit this way without discussion or showing editors an ounce of respect with their concerns I had no choice. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:15, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah wow thats a relief!!. I came across Gunavarma I in an article and would like to see an article on him. You are familiar with him? I did some unrelated work on Tamil literary scholars in the past and have created some Karnataka building stubs long ago that i can't remember off hand- I think but some of the Kannada language/ Karnataka articles on wikipedia are a pleasure to read and obviously written by people who are very resourceful and intelligent. Could you find info on him? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:24, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
He is red linked in Western Ganga literature for starters ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:28, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I started it but imagine it would require a specialist book to expand it ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:40, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
Also the bibliography of Gourish Kaikini needs listing on his page. It would be great to have full articles on much of his notable works ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Talk"? 22:46, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hey
Hi. Could you take a look at Satellite Instructional Television Experiment and make suggestions for improvement at the talk page. I plan to take it to FAC asap. Thanks. And congrats on your many many FAs. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:09, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- Ya. I was on a long break. Final semester of college was loaded with projects and assignments and stuff. Am relatively free for a few months now, so thought I should work on wiki as much as possible. Thanks for looking at the article. - Aksi_great (talk) 18:23, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] hegidira
Hi, hegidira... I have been seeing that you are much concerned with the Kannada Language article and any other edits done by others you are reverting. I donno what is your objective. Also I read some discussions like influence of Sanskrit on Tamil inside that. If so Why cant you quote the Influence of Tamil on Kannada. Since I am in Bangalore and as far I see, almost most of the Kannada words are Kannadized form of tamil words example: pogai - hogai, nalla - olla etc., etc., thousands to quote. If you are a so neutral writer why cant you add a section regarding this I thought to add a section, but the thing is I know you ll remove it without any concern. I am thinking to raise report on you with other admins regarding your attitude if you continue like this, You love your language, thats great, but never hate others, also be ready to accept the truth and reality. namaskara, enjoy maadi...
[edit] Re:images
Dinesh,
You could try out putting them in a gallery format. Like 5 or 6 images in a row, and several such rows one below the other, each image being a thumbnail. I will see if I can get an example. - KNM Talk 18:46, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- This page has a kind of gallery I was talking about. Do you like it? If so, I can set that up one for you, and you can keep adding your images you uploaded. - KNM Talk 18:51, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- 300+ images!? :) Ok, then it may not be a good idea to put them all on user page. Yes, as you said, a separate page under your user namespace would be a good idea. You can provide link to that page from your user page and those who are interested will click that link and follow. Thanks - KNM Talk 19:18, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New Images
Hi Dinesh,
An user left me a message about the images he has uploaded to WP. These are those images: Image:Kudala Sangama.jpg, Image:Hampi Utsava.jpg, Image:Hampi Stone Chariot.jpg, Image:Karnataka Flag.jpg, Image:Hamsalekha.jpg, Image:TungaBhadra Dam.jpg. They have very good resolution, and all are in public domain. We should be able to use them in relevant articles. Feel free to use them wherever you need. I believe, we should have a project level gallery kind of repository that shows all the good, free, images that are available in English Wikipedia / Wikicommons. That way, we can use them whenever we need, during article improvement drive or when a new article is created. What is your opinion? - KNM Talk 19:10, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kingdom of Mysore
Sir, while your copy edit efforts are appreciated, I notied you have removed 3 images from this article. Please dont do so without concensus. All those images were relevant to the article. Also, many power links have been delinked. Please put those links back. thank you.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 21:24, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

- I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.9, which is quite common. I think it my be my display resolution, which is 1440x900, whcih is a very new resolution and hardly any monitors use it. Maybe that's it. [edit] Western Chalukya architecture
DK, I did some copyedit (alpha order; reverted to single column) to the References section of the Western Chalukya architecture article. I've never seen the double column format in the Reference section of a Featured Article, or in any article for that matter. I hope my copyedit assists the FA quest. I wish you well in that regard. [edit] Photos at Western Chalukya architecture
I trying to brighten up the photos. I hope you don't mind. If you feel otherwise please revert to earlier versions.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:15, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Used Adobe Photoshop. Dont worry about the photos, i will fix them all. Please work on the text of the article instead. (See my comments on FAC page).--Redtigerxyz (talk) 12:22, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
I think , if the yeli image is cropped in Image:Shimoga Thirpuranthakeshwara Balustrade.JPG, the details of the scuplture can be better seen. Should i do it?--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:43, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Please do tell me if you still any of photos in the article or any you uploaded in any other article needs a facelift?--Redtigerxyz (talk) 05:54, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Next time,please give links to photos.--Redtigerxyz (talk) 04:32, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
I have uploaded the new brightened images and the yeli image. Hope they look better. If you have more photos that add to any article's value and need work. Please let me know. Only Plz make sure you give img links .--Redtigerxyz 14:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling variations
Per our recent discussion on Talk:Hoysala architecture, here is a list of potential spelling inconsistencies in the first FA on your list Chalukya dynasty. I have attempted to eliminate variations which appear valid in the article's context, but may have missed one or more.
- Ranaranga <-> Ranaraga
- Vijayanaka <-> Vijayanka
- Natyasastra <-> Natyashastra
- Harithiputhras <-> Harithiputras
- Satyashraya <-> Satyasraya (it's a bit hard to tell from context whether this is the same thing or not)
- Vikramanakadeva <-> Vikramankadeva, and relatedly,
- Vikramankadeva Charita <-> Vikramanakadevacharita <-> Vikramanakadevacharitam
Good luck in figuring out what needs to be changed to which. Michael Devore 23:47, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Just a note
As I was developing the Jaffna Kingdom article I came across a curious reference about the Kings claiming Ganga dynasty origin and a local primary source called Rajavaliya refers to one of the Kings as a Karnatakan. Now this was explained away by the author of the book as due to the Jaffna Kingdom's association with Vijayanagara empire but just wondering whether you had run into any material that may expand upon this so called relationship. Taprobanus 00:08, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your encouragement. It is you that gave me the inspiration idea to do what I am doing with that article. I am almost done with the major one but a lot more articles associated with it to be done. I am at a lost as to how to make up the inforbox for Kings’s names that you have in all the Karnataka articles such as Gangas etc. Where do I find the template for the Inforboxes ? Thanks Taprobanus 17:29, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you Taprobanus 19:10, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
- Now I know what happened, the Ganga origin that they claim comes from the Western Ganga Dynasty of Kalinga. I found this out as I was researching about their flag. It is an exact copy of the Western Ganga Dynasty. Kalinga Magha the so called legendary originator of the dynasty self proclaims to be from this dynasty. Some Sinhalese kings too have come from this line in Sri Lanka including the very popular Nissanka Malla who was born in India a Hindu but became a great Buddhist patron in Sri Lanka supposedly a maternal uncle of Kalingha Magha. Anyway do take look the article now and make any changes you seem fit after all it is modeled after your articles. Thanks Taprobanus (talk) 16:40, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry my mistake, yes eastern Gangas Taprobanus (talk) 17:09, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vijayanagara Empire
Second FA minor spelling consistency check. Spelling variations follow:
- Parvathi and Parvati.
- Mahanavmi dibba and Mahanavami dibba.
- Astadiggajas and Ashtadiggajas.
- Wikilinks Bahmani Sultanate and Bahamani Sultanate.
- Wikilinks Lingayatism and Lingayitism.
- Wikilinks Sadasiva Raya and Sadashiva Raya. Interestingly, the two wikilinks go to different articles on the same subject. One of those articles probably needs to be redirected to the other. Any ideas on which?
And two changes which are simple typos I'd correct myself, but I figured you'd be in there changing things anyway, so I left them:
- American spelling Archeological where British Archaeological is used elsewhere, used in a wikilink which itself redirects to the British spelling.
- Several references use the notation Fritz & Mitchell when the listed source, verified as correct by ISBN lookup, spells the second name Michell.
That's more than enough to bug you with for now. I'll check the others later. Michael Devore 01:54, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Done but I could not locate Bahamani Sultanate.thanks.Dineshkannambadi 20:32, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ahh, Bahamani Sultanate is in Template:KarnatakaHistory transcluded in the article. Not much you can do about that since the template is in a dozen different articles. Good work, I'll try to get through the rest of your FA list fairly soon. I haven't had the patience and the necessary long span of free time to devote to the process the past couple of days. [edit] Hoysala architecture
As I told you before, Dinesh, see WP:NOPRO. The vandalism to Today's Featured Article is pretty manageable. Besides, there are many people watchlisting the article, and the vandalism is getting reverted quickly. Nishkid64 (talk) 21:00, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
- Well, images and templates on the Main Page are a different issue. Months ago, we had a bunch of users who vandalized templates and images with obscene images. As a result, those images/templates showed up on the Main Page. Imagine the surprise of innocent readers seeing someone's genitals on the Main Page! Anyway, the policy regarding TFA protection was written so that it meets the basic tenets of Wikipedia. This is supposed to be a free encyclopedia that allows everybody to edit. Most people click on Today's Featured Article, and it would be a shame if they could not edit the page. I know some people vandalize, but there are others who have good-faith intentions. For these reasons, a relatively strict policy was written regarding protection for items featured on the Main Page. Nishkid64 (talk) 21:11, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I see that the matter is settled. By the way, congratulations on main page featuring. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 08:41, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

- Dinesh: I went to Hoysala architecture, but at present there is no "edit" tab at the top of the page. I'm not enough of a "computer geek" to fix this problem, which I have never encountered before. Help! Writtenright 02:56, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Writtenright
- Dinesh: Have just finished editing the article. It is very good as it stands; I do not see the reason for the big fuss over "weasel words" and whatnot. The two biggest changes I made were, first, to excise some of the avatars of Vishnu (do we really need to list all of them here?), and second, in the section on the known craftsmen, to eliminate the instances of this very overworked word "artist" and to substitute the more precise word "artisan". This useful word is, alas, falling out of favour, and I would wish to help retain it in the language. Finally, if I have mistaken any of your meanings in any way whatsoever, please do not hesitate to edit my edits in turn. Namaste, Writtenright 06:09, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Writtenright
- Dinesh: From the temperature of your luke-warm thanks, I take it you are rather less than pleased with my work. I see that you have cut out "excellent", "valuable", and "impressive", those adjectives being what your critics call "weasel words". I guess I erred in cutting the Vishnu's avatars iconography section; my reasoning was that that material more properly belongs in an article on Vishnu. I still don't quite see its necessity here, but it's "your" article, I guess. Writtenright (talk) 23:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Writtenright
- Dinesh: Thank you so very much for your kind note. I like the article very much and thank you for the honour of helping you to share India's "magnificent", "impressive", "beautiful", and "spiritual" culture with the wider world. "Pop!" goes the weasel! Writtenright (talk) 00:33, 5 December 2007 (UTC)Writtenright

[edit] Rashtrakuta Dynasty spelling
After all your hard work, only the Chalukya dynasty spelling list is left to do, so here is another list to choose as an alternate.
- Rashtrakutas and Rastrakutas, similarly,
- Rashtrakuta and Rastrakuta (empire)
- Prathihara and Pratiharas
- (Ibn) Khurdadba and Kurdadba
- Rashtraudha and Rastraudha (dynasty) [second spelling is in a book title, so both might be correct for the article]
- Kailasanath and Kailasanatha (Temple )
- Arikeseri and Arikesari (can't tell if they should be the same, I think they are different people but possibly of the same lineage).
- Begumra and Bagumra (one is in reference to plates, the other in reference to records, so this might be correct)
- Torkhede and Tarkhede (inscriptions of Govinda III )
Not many on your FA list to check after this one. Michael Devore (talk) 01:19, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
