Dinosaur Dreaming

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dinosaur Dreaming Palaeontological site is situated near Inverloch a small town on the coast of Victoria, Australia. The site is famous because of the primitive mammals from the Cretaceous Age that were first uncovered there in 1997 by dedicated researchers from Monash University Science Centre.

Alongside early Mammals, the remains of Dinosaurs and fossil bones of Cretaceous Age Reptiles, Birds and Fishes are also to be found at the Inverloch dig site. Australia’s first dinosaur bone, the Cape Paterson Claw, was discovered near Inverloch in 1903 by William Hamilton Ferguson. The bones and stones of Inverloch open a window into deep time, into the Mesozoic Era. Our remote ancestors, the mammals, then lived furtive lives in the shadow of fearsome dinosaurs. To trace the origin and evolution of mammals is important because it tells us about our own beginnings.
