[edit] Show summary

Five teenagers, Rodger, Max, Caruso, Fiona and Buzz, suddenly gain the power to turn into dinosaurs. With the help of their mysterious science teacher, Ms. Moynihan (who is an anthropomorphic velociraptor), they learn to use their unique abilities to protect the planet from Victor Veloci. Victor is widely known as the head of company Raptor Dyne, but is also a 165 million-year-old anthropomorphic velociraptor. His secret identity is unknown to everyone except himself and the audience. His true plan is to turn everyone into dinosaurs and increase the climate to that of the Mesozoic era with the goal of returning the world to how it was when dinosaurs ruled. To summon their Dino forms, they shout "Go Dino!".

[edit] Characters

  • Ms. Moynihan - A science teacher who is an anthropomorphic Velociraptor. She can communicate telepathically with the teens.
  • Max - An 18-year old high school senior in Ms. Moynihan's class. He is the de facto leader and captain of the football team. His Dino form is a Tyrannosaurus rex.
  • Caruso - Another high school senior in Ms. Moynihan's class. He is vain and obsessed with the idea of fame. His Dino form is a Stegosaurus.
  • Fiona - Another high school senior in Ms. Moynihan's class. She is the only girl on the Squad, and has a penchant for fast things like rollerblades or race cars. Her Dino form is a Spinosaurus.
  • Rodger - Another high school senior in Ms. Moynihan's class. He is very smart and has a prankster streak. His Dino form is a Styracosaurus (although unlike the real Styracosaurus, Rodger's dino form has three horns like a Triceratops).
  • Buzz - Another high school senior in Ms. Moynihan's class. He's the "punk" kid, who is scared of his own shadow. Several times throughout the series, he also shows affection for small creatures traditionally considered "gross" in European culture, such as rats, snakes, cockroaches, and spiders. His alternate form, a Pteranodon, is the only non-dinosaur in the DinoSquad.
  • Rump - The DinoSquad's mischievous pet dog. He can transform himself into a strange animal that looks like a hybrid between a dinosaur and a dog. The DinoSquad as of yet has not determined the species of dinosaur his "dino form" is supposed to be.
  • Victor Veloci - An evil business magnate who owns Raptor Dyne. He wants to revert the world back to the way it was over 65 million years ago. His dino form is a Velociraptor.

[edit] Trivia

  • This is the third dinosaur-themed animated series from DIC, with the previous two being Dinosaucers (made in the 1980's) and Extreme Dinosaurs (made in the 1990's).
  • Dino Squad shares similar plot devices with DIC's older show Extreme Dinosaurs. Both feature velociraptor villains seeking to create global warming for world domination.
  • The show's Velociraptors resemble the larger Deinonychus and Utahraptor more than the real Velociraptor, which was considerably smaller and had a much narrower snout.
  • Maxwell's T. rex form makes noises similar to that of the T. rex in Jurassic Park.
  • The teens' Dino form colors match the clothes that they wear.
  • In the very first episode, Ms. Moynihan teaches the teens how to control their new powers so they can become dinosaurs at their own free will.
  • The show's plotline is very similar to Power Rangers, but more specifically, Power Rangers: Dino Thunder.
  • The show also shares some simliarities to VR Troopers (i.e., a villain with a human identity).
