[edit] Baseball

After graduating from Boston College in June 1926, he signed as a free agent with the Boston Braves. He made his major league debut on July 2, 1927. In two seasons with the Braves, he played in 20 games, mostly as a pinch runner, had 1 hit in 13 at bats (.077) and scored 7 runs. He also spent time with the Providence Grays of the New England League

[edit] Coaching

Before becoming head coach he was the backfield coach at Fordham University under Frank Cavanaugh (McNamara played fullback for Cavanaugh at B.C) from 1927-1933. In 1933 he served as an assistant to Coach Joe McKenney at Boston College. He became coach after McKenney resigned to accept the $5,000 post of associate director of physical education in the Boston public school system. He resigned after 4 games due to emotional problems that had developed after an automobile accident two years earlier became too much for him. His career record is 3-1. He also served as the freshman baseball coach while at B.C. He was killed on December 20, 1963 when he was hit by a car while walking near his home.
