Dinhata is located at 26.13° N 89.47° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 36 metres (118 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Dinhata had a population of 34,303. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Dinhata has an average literacy rate of 80%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 84% and, female literacy is 75%. In Dinhata, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Dinhata has a vary glorious political history. Ershad, one of the Former President of Bangladesh had studied in Dinhata High School. Kamal Guha. (MLA from Forward Block), Former agriculture minister of the Govt. of W.B, was from Dinhata. Now the MLA of this area is Ashok Mondal[TMC]. Total Blocks= 2 Total Wards= 16 Head of the Municipality= Sri Jagadish Ch Ghosh.
