Dinantian

Dinantian is the name of the Lower Carboniferous period (which started 354 million years ago), and specifically a series of rocks in Europe which were deposited during the period. Another name for this period is the Avonian, a name proposed by Dr Arthur Vaughan in 1905 (Q.J.G.S. vol. lxi. p. 264) for the rocks of Lower Carboniferous age in the Avon Gorge at Bristol.
