Talk:Dimitris Varos
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] AfD or not?
I'm considering to Ask for Deletion of this article Dimitris Varos, because of lacking external references and verifiability (see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons). There's not enough material available in Englisch to judge the merits of his poetic work.
However, someone who speaks Greek might be able to verify:
- the press-clippings provided on Varos' homepage [1]; it looks as if literature critics actually did read the book and comment on it;
- bibliographical data and availability of the author's four books; I couldn't find them on http://www.kastaniotis.com;
- reception of the author's work by Greek writers' community.
My impression: there might be enough substance to justify an Wikipedia article. It just requires someone with sufficient language skills to double-check the facts and extend the stub to a real article. :-) ---zzz 23:03, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
Most of the blurbs in the site aren't by literary critics. There is an excerpt by a well known newspaper (remember that Varos is/was the director of a major newspaper, so this may not be meritocratic) and two by his own newspaper critics, one of who doesn't really praise the poetic compilation.
In http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Greek_literature#Modern there are 11 modern writers, one of which is Varos. He may deserve a page, but there are a lot of major Greek writers and poets, tens of minors who have a place before Varos. He isn't a household name even among writers.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.203.105.217 (talk • contribs) 01:06, 19 July 2006
