Dimitris Xygalatas

Dimitris Xygalatas (born in 1977), is a cognitive anthropologist and research fellow at Aarhus University and the Program in Hellenic Studies at Princeton University.

He studied religion at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and Aarhus University, Denmark. He received his PhD from the Institute of Cognition and Culture, at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He has studied the firewalking rituals of Europe. He conducted anthropological fieldwork in Greece, where he studied the rituals of the Anastenaria, in the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, and in San Pedro Manrique, Spain. In 2007-2008 he worked as a postdoctoral Research Fellow at Aarhus University. He is currently a research fellow at the Program in Hellenic Studies at Princeton University. He is also a translator of academic books for Vanias Publications, in Greece.
