Dilys Laye

Dilys Laye (born March 11, 1934) is a British actress, best known for comedy roles.

She appeared in several British comedy films, including four of the Carry On films:

In the 1980s she appeared in (and co-wrote) the ITV comedy series Chintz.

More recently, she has appeared in episodes of Coronation Street, EastEnders, Holby City, Midsomer Murders and Doctors. Laye also portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in the BBC drama The Amazing Mrs Pritchard, in 2006. In April 2008, she starred in the BBC drama Rather You Than Me, a biopic of British comedy star Frankie Howerd, in which she played Howerd's mother, Edith. Laye had previously worked with Howerd on Carry On Doctor.

She has also worked extensively in the theatre.
