Dilshad Garden

Dilshad Garden also known as DG by its residents is a large housing colony situated in East Delhi that was primarily developed by Delhi Development Authority (DDA). A nearby colony named Dilshad Colony is sometimes confused to be its part. DG is a part of Vishwas Nagar constituency and currently the incumbent MLA is Dr.Narendra Nath.

The area is divided into several Blocks and Pockets named from A through R. The area is not very well organized and has also become cluttered over years due to rampant unauthorized construction by its residents. For a visitor sometimes finding his way may be a daunting task even if he has correct address. Streets across blocks H, I, J&K have become totally commercial with almost all road facing ground floor flats being turned into shops.

DG is very well connected with other parts of Delhi. It is nearly 4km from Anand Vihar Interstate Bus Terminus and about 3 km from Shahdara. There are several buses run by DTC and Blue line that either terminate or touch DG from several parts of Delhi. Some of prominent bus routes are 281, 375, 333, 165, 283 ,340 ,216 , 246 , 847 , 982 , 971 , 33 , Outer Mudrika .

Several buses are also available for traveling to adjoining cities, Noida and Ghaziabad.

Nearest Delhi Metro station is Dilshad Garden which is about 0.5 Kilometers away. From Shahdara station several buses and small taxis ply quite frequently and charge very nominal fare. Delhi Metro is extending its Shahdara line till Seemapuri border and this line shall be inaugurated on 3rd of June 2008. Once completed DG would be touched by Jhilmil and Dilshad Garden metro stations.

The area is quite densely populated with a good mix of people from all income groups, castes and religion. Over several years DG has evolved very well and is now considered one of good housing colonies developed by DDA.
