This top shell is endemic to New Zealand.

This species is common in the intertidal zone in rocky situations.

[edit] Shell description

The shell is massive, subglobose, and spirally ridged. Coloration is black, with a greenish underlayer that shows in an outer lip margining band. The surface is irregularly flecked with small yellowish dots. The columella is white, heavily callused, with a subbasal swelling that develops into a strong tooth in fully adult examples.

Maximum height is 26 mm, and width 30 mm.
