Dillon, Texas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dillon was a town in Hopkins County, Texas located four miles south of Saltillo. The town was named after E. F. Dillon, who started operating the post office in his store in 1903. The post office closed in 1906, and in the mid-1930's the town disappeared from highway maps.[1]
A fictional town called Dillon is the setting for the current NBC television drama Friday Night Lights, which is filmed in Pflugerville and Austin, Texas (in the central part of the state). Explicit references to the fictional Dillon's actual location within Texas are rare in the show, although it is mentioned that the town is a couple hours away (in an unknown direction) from Austin, and that a car dealership owned by character Buddy Garrity is the biggest in "West Central Texas." In Season 1 Episode 18 Lyla mentions that she drove 200 Miles to Austin, where Jason is in a rugby camp. Using this distance along with Buddy's statement would roughly correspond to areas around Sonora, San Angelo, and Abilene. In Season 2, Jason dates a girl from Midland that he met online, thus supporting a closer proximity to the San Angelo/Abilene area. In Season 1, the nearest major hospital to Dillon is in Midland during the episodes with Jason's spinal cord injury.
